Quoted: One negative I have with the scope... why the decision to have the magnification ring reversed? It's the only one of all my scopes (Including other Vortex scopes) where I have to remember to dial the other way for magnification changes. View Quote Honestly, I'm not sure why some of our lines go one way or the other. |

Hmm maybe a switchview would help. Any of you guys try one yet for the Strike Eagle? Care to post some pics??
$60 for a switchview seems to be quite a bit for a scope of this price level. |
|
|
I know that... I just feel the switchviews are somewhat overpriced for what they cost to design and produce. To be honest... I wish the Strike Eagle either came with one or had the hump on the magnification ring be enlarged into an actual switch like the switchview. All that would require was a slightly different molding and voila!
Almost everyone buying this is using it in a 3 Gun style setup.... which means just about everyone would prefer an easier to rotate magnification ring. I'll probably end up spitting the cash out for a switchview myself or just get some offset irons instead. (Which actually sounds like a better idea) Just tossing an idea out there for the eventual Gen II. |
|
I have the SV-4 and it's a nicely machined piece. Throw levers don't have to be expensive though - hose clamp and shrink wrap.

Will a mount with a 1.5" center line be tall enough to clearly see over a fix sight base?
|
|
No, you will still clearly see the fsb at lower magnification. At the higher end it will disappear or you'll see some slight shadowing. Either way, shouldn't matter.
To see "over" an FSB with a variable optic at 1x you'd need a ridiculously tall mount (as in no one makes them that tall) or a scope with an extremely narrow FOV. Neither of those things are good so best thing to do is learn to deal. |
|
I guess my post was poorly worded, I know that I'll see the front sight in the bottom of the scope at 1x, I wanted to make sure the retical will be well above the sight and not co-witnessed.

Hmm, I ended up caving at ordering the switchview. Just can't get my brain used to the damn magnification direction lol. The switchview will hopefully help me figure out which direction by just yanking it towards the opposite side.

Vortex appears to have hit this out of the park, of course I won't know for sure until I get my grubby little hands on mine! Ordered and paid for mine on 8/6 with Alan @ A&A, of course he told me that had I called a day earlier he still had one available. Just my luck! I have a brand new LT104 sitting here looking quite lonely; so Vortex, pretty please with sprinkles on top, can I haz my scope yet? |
|
I just ordered one too, along with a PST 2.5-10. I'm pretty stoked, been waiting for an inexpensive 1-6 for a rile I have sitting all lonely in my safe. The PST is going on a rifle I am assembling.

They are out of stock at the moment but said they have 20ish coming in possibly this week, if not next week. I was #4 I think on the wait list, so it should be a short wait if you get in now. |

Heard from Alan @ at A&A optics today and he got a single strike eagle in his shipment today that he wasn't expecting. So he's sending it off to me tomorrow.
Thanks Alan, and thank you vortex! |

No, but let me know when you do. I pre ordered mine in April from DSG, so I'm probably getting mine after you.

What's the word on BH Photo receiving theirs? Keep getting told they would *definitely* get a delivery by X-date, then it gets pushed back a month. Original "delivery" was mid august, then mid september, now it's pushed to october. I realize that other places have them in stock, but the price + goodies at BHP is hard to pass up so I understand that patience must be factored into the equation.

What is likely happening is that they are getting scopes but the number they have on backorder (due to low price, etc.) means that the number of scopes they receive per shipment is not putting as big of a dent as they would like in their backorders. I apologize for the wait, but please let me know if you have further questions. I would be happy to help. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Moved my StrikeEagle to my Rhino Arms RA-5R HMR in 7.62mm for Generation III Gun Championship this weekend. Gonna see how it holds up to some .30 caliber abuse. Of course this thing shoots as soft as a stock .223 M4 with all its low mass internals and adjustable gas system. So it may not be the most tortuous of tests. If anybody is still looking to pick up a StrikeEagle shoot me a PM or better yet an email and I'll get you a 10% off code for Optics Planet which makes this scope a $300 item. http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt219/jtischauser/1%20Forums/4C83CF38-6B91-460B-820C-14E7C06ED0A5_zpsqywlraka.jpg View Quote Have you done a review yet of this? NM, finally found it. It's a Samson DMR.
What scope mount is this? Having a hard time finding anything that looks like it and I can only read something that looks like "BAM" on it. Quoted:

Do you mean to say that it's apples to oranges here, and that the SWFA is a different class or that the vortex is a great bargain and superior optic. I've never looked thru an SWFA scope of any kind. So I can't compare it to anything. But I wouldn't compare a $1000 scope to a $300 scope. You've obviously got some big differences or somebody is just trying to rip you off. After a quick glance The SWFA I see it's a first focal plane scope. That doesn't make any sense to me in a low power variable. If I need the reticle I'm shooting at 300+ yards. At that point I want all 6X. Not 2x, 3x, 4x, or even 5x. I want to see as much of the target and as clearly as possible. Now if I'm running a high power scope like 12x or more I might want to dial back magnification due to mirage, wobble or other variables. Past 300 I want all I can get up till about 8-10x. Does that make sense? I also don't see the need for those expensive dials under the turrets. Low power variables are for fast work in CQB then quick shots using the BDC reticle out to 500-600 yards maybe 700-800 on big targets on a 7.62. You're using it mostly for speed not real precision work at longer ranges imho. |
