REALLY looking forward to this.
Any chance Arfcom can get some advance units for testing? |

I second that ... id even be willing to pay for it ...... I need a quality reasonably priced optic for mine |
Every time I look at the specs of the optic, then the price, then I see on here how this company is not just a site sponser, but is doing give aways and is extremely response to this community... I can't wait to get my hands on some of their optics. (namely the strikefire). What it really comforting is knowing that this is a real deal, family company that will stand behind their product.
Keep up the good work Vortex! |
It's definitely a good idea. When I get home I will talk to the sales guys and see if we can come up with a good way to go about it. I also plan to do a giveaway with a StrikeFire too, so keep your eyes on the forum! |
Any chance you will have a version with a cantilever mount?
Hey, just found your forum here ... thanks for being a part of the Community!
I really like that your extra magnifying glass threads into the body of the optic, at least in theory ... execution is everything though. What's the FOV with/without the 2x glass? How's this for an idea? Thread the outside body at the rear, and make the rear flip cap on a threaded ring that then threads onto the body. Make it so you can thread off the flip cap assembly and thread on different magnifier assemblies ... and then make it so that the magnifier will flip and lock in an upright position too That'd make it an instant flip to go from magnified to 1x, even faster than haveing a flip mount Aimpoint setup. You can have that idea, royalty free ... hahaha. |

Sounds good. We have a local Practical Rifle match here once a month. Lots of LE and MIL shoot this match. It has been our testing ground for gear for a long time. The great thing is its targets from 5-300 meters. Would gladly pay for an advance unit and provide written product feedback as well as photos of it in use. Just let me know. CH |

I personally would GLADLY pay dealer pricing on an advance copy and would sign an agreement that I could not sell it until production models were on the market for a 1 yr period. That way you wouldnt have to worry about someone getting pre production stuff that they shouldnt. YES I am trying to sweeten the pot as to getting one of these hence the no selling clause. |
Hi guys, I'm glad that you have so much interest in testing a unit out.
I've been out of the country visiting some factories for the last week, so I haven't had a chance to discuss any of this with the marketing team yet. I'll make sure to ask them about it on Monday and get back to you. I know that right now for sure we wouldn't be able to do anything because we have very few working prototypes at this point and we need them. But we may have some more in the near future. I don't want to set any specific dates yet though because I hate getting people's hopes up and then disappointing them. |
No plans at this point, but it is something that I may look into adding in the future. |
That's an interesting idea. I will definitely keep in in mind. Thanks! I don't know the FOV off the top of my head. I'll get you that info on Monday when I get back to the office. |
I'm glad you like the idea ... I'd be even happier if there was a scope available that I could buy with that setup |
I can completely understand not wanting to give a time on when you will have more production models. It seems that sometimes when things get leaked around here and dont quite happen on a supposed release date some people get their panties in a wad. Today the Georgia Home Town Forum had a group shoot at a local range where all kinds of toys were had and while shooting different weapons with different optics I cant say that I have been drawn to any in general and I openly look forward to the actual release of these. This is my main question. When they are finally ready for distributors and dealers what is the number of the first production run going to be? The German Sports Gun GSG-5 has recently been imported into the US, and their popularity is thru the roof, unfortunately only roughly 13000 are being imported every 2 months making them hard to come by. Im just hoping that this wont happen to what looks to be a great optic. |
Without the magnifier is a little more difficult to say because it really depends on how far away it is from your eye. And then it's only if you're shooting with one eye open. With two eyes open the FOV is whatever you normally see. I'm measuring the FOV with the 2x doubler and I will post it when I have the info. |
I can't really give out the number that we are going to be producing on our initial run, but I will say that the way it normally works is that we will have the factory air ship a smaller amount initially, and then the bulk of the main order comes by ship after that. So, when they are first available they might be a little harder to come by. Then about a month later we should get the bulk of the first run and they should be much easier to get. Sorry if that's a little vague, but since this is our first red dot type of sight it's really hard for me to gauge what the demand is going to be like. I'm trying to avoid giving people any misconceptions about what the availability is going to be like until I've got some kind of baseline to go on. |
For the person who asked about FOV with the 2x doubler I've got some measurements. Keep in mind that your eye relief position is going to change the FOV. Just to give you an idea of how it changes here are the measurements that I made:
At 6" eye relief the FOV is 20ft. @ 100yds. At 2" eye relief the FOV is 32ft. @ 100yds. |
I for one am willing to wait. I want to try this sight.
I think we can come together as a group and purchase enough of these sights to make a first year order. I mean who doesn't own at least 2 rifles, a few shotguns, and a railed pistol or two??? Crap, I will need at least 8 to start. |

If you guys want a heat test...I can run this on a 5.45 AK w/ an Ultimak.
I'll run it for 300 rounds mag dump after mag dump or more if it's not enough...but my hand is gonna be a lil warm after 300 and my polymer lower should be squishy by then. Lots of heat generated at that mount/tube on my AK. Just lemme know. I'll provide pics and possibly a vid. |

Is there any effect to parralax with the magnifier on? (I know I asked that in another thread... but this thread is way more appropriate I feel. So ignore the other thread question dupe. ) |

The more I rear about this makes me want one.

I'm thinking this thing will be perfect for my .458 Socom build. And one of my .22's, and my tactical shotgun.
Oh man is the wife gonna be pissed if I buy 3 of these in a few months. |
I might have missed it but is the ring going to be Weaver or Picatinny? I have never shot a .375 H&H Magnum rifle before, is it durable enough to withstand 12 gauge shotgun?
Thanks. |
The mount will fit on both Weaver or Picatinny. If you look at the first page you can see that the AR I have it mounted on has an LMT upper and it fits just fine. VortexPaul has a prototype mounted up on his 12 gauge right now for Turkey season, shooting magnum loads, and it's holding up great. |
I really really need one of these for the SBR build
Can't wait guys! Could we get a vid or two, if possible, of you guys using the optic? Thanks. |

Awesome Optic! It looks like I am moving my S.P.O.T. to my GSG-5 so I've been looking for something new for my AR, this looks like a great design! I am eager to see some 3rd party test results.

Is this a CR123 3 volt? If not, would be nice since my Surefires use the same batt. |
I have another durability question, if this has been answered, I apologize. I would like to put it on my Beowulf, do you see any problems with this?

Colt...obviously not Vortex but earlier in the thread they said they used it on 3" slugs and turkey loads on a shotgun. Never shot a Beo but is it about on par recoil wise w/ 3" slugs? |

I can answer that one for you. CR123 is not the same thing as a CR2. Different sizes. Though similar in price to a CR123; it will cost you $10 or more for a 2-pack at most retail stores but if you buy them online you can find them for $1 a piece. |
No, not the same as a CR123. Physically it's slightly smaller and they are not interchangeable. Sorry! |
Thanks five. I've never shot a Beowulf either, but Paul has been shooting 3" slugs quite a bit and it's still doing great. In fact, I believe he's not coming in to work today because his turkey season just started this morning and he's out hunting right now! If anyone else knows how the Beowulf and 3" magnum turkey loads in a pump shotgun compare I'd love to know. Thanks! |
I have a question, does this scope have bulled drop compensation?
No, it's just a single red dot in the center. We do have some rifle scopes that have BDC reticles in them though. They are called the "Dead-Hold BDC". www.vortexoptics.com/riflescopes Click the drop down menus to select the BDC reticle choice in the Diamondback and Viper models. |
Thanks for the replies and for just for fun, I went out to shoot 3" deer slugs, they were Remington Copper Solids Sabot, and I used my Mossberg 500 12ga to see if the recoil was the same as my 'wulf. From the shooting I did, it felt about the same. So I guess that answers the question. I'll be ordering one.
PS - On SWFA website, it doesn't say if the doubler comes with the scope, I'm assuming that it does? |

Good to know. Thanks for doing that informal analysis. Yes it should come with everything that's listed on our website. |

I'm thinking June right now, pending testing. I'll post an update when I have more concrete info. |

Vortex, i have a question for you. How do you think your product rates in term of quality and assurance compared to aimpoint or Eotech? I want one of your red dot scopes but the hole china thing has me a little worried. I work as hard as any man here. I think i speak for all of us. Is this a high quallity scope system or is this just a good scope made to fill the void. I only want to spend my money one time. Thanks and i look forward to having one of your red dot scopes. Please advise, lee

I think that our StrikeFire is going to be very good quality. We've been doing some testing on it with good results. Certainly, this red dot is designed to fit a target market with the price where it is and it had to be made in China in order to meet that price. I can't give a definitive answer as to how it compares to the other sights you mention, because I haven't done any extensive testing and comparisons between them, but I assume that the fact that they are significantly more expensive means they will have some advantages. That being said, I think that the StrikeFire will more than meet the needs of most users. Ultimately it's a decision that you'll have to make. |

Thank you. Can I preorder? |

You're welcome! I think that SWFA might be doing pre-orders, but I'm not exactly sure how they are handling that. I would try contacting them and asking. We don't sell direct. |
who is SWFA, is it a website, or a member....
SWFA is a website that sells optics and other items. Check the box on top of this page, it'll take you to their website.

I see on your website that you have a contact in Canada and seems to have some distributors. Are they ready for the order or pre-order?
What is the ETA for the Canuk market? same as the US i guess, or is the last ETA still in June? I like the lifetime warranty and this should in fact play a lot in the scale in your favor. seems to be a pretty well built optic. how do you compare with a real mil-spec? It will take a lot of punishment but what would be the requested spec to be fully mil-spec? Thanks! |
I was able to
The prototype I looked at (still attached to the turkey gun) seemed very solid, I was able to easily get a solid sight picture in both red or green mode. The 2X threaded onto the back of the Strikefire, and while did reduce the field of view, it was clear and the magnified sight picture (o me at least) was beneficial. Thanks Vortex, looking forward to seeing one of these on one of my rifles in June (I hope!) |
There are lots of Canadian dealers who'd be very happy to take your pre-order - just go to our website dealer locator. They'll get them about the same time as US dealers will. I don't know the any mil-spec's for a red dot type sight, so I can't help you with that one ! Paul |
