Awesome! Can't wait to see the pics.
Also, do you know if SWFA would carry this already since it looks like on their site you are able to order one? Or is it just pre-ordering? http://www.swfa.com/pc-12783-2214-new-vortex-1x30-strikefire-red-dot-30mm-sight.aspx |
That must be a pre-order because we don't have them finished yet. I only have prototypes at this point. We expect to have them ready to ship by June. |

Thanks for the great pics. Now how am I supposed to wait till June for this?! Send me a prototype. |
I'll be happy to stop in a pick up a demo unit next time I stop at Clausen's Bakery....
Be happy to drop off some of their pastries :) Or you guys could drop one off a C's restaurant...at breakfast time...as I havent had their eggs benedict for a while... Hope you guys consider a 3X or 4X doubler...as Aimpoint & Eotech prices are way up there for theirs... |
Thanks a lot for the interest guys! We don't have any units we can give out for demo right now, but we've had lots of interest in people wanting to do testing.
When we get closer to releasing the product I will let you know if we will be sending out demo units. |

What kind of battery does it use?
Tomac |
It uses a CR2 3V Lithium. |
It appears, to me, that with the doubler on that it wouldn't like to take a beating....you guys beat this thing around at all?
Also, the one from the 'catalog' picture has differnt flip up's...which ones will be shipped? To me it looks like all the other chicom made clones, except you guys added a rheostat with some buttons to it for a different angle to a flooded market. |

The pictures are of a prototype that is not finished yet. The catalog picture is something that I rendered in Solidworks until we get the final production sights in stock. The final production model will look like the Solidworks rendering. This particular product in our line is made in China, but I am the one doing the CAD work and design. |

First of all... Thanks for your presence and participation on the forum. While there does seem to be a lot cheap extremely low-end chicom optics available. What we are lacking is a good selection of decent quality optics in the mid-level price range. The Strikefire seems to fill that void. With the specs I've seen so far and the included warranty, I have no doubt I'll be giving this one a try as soon as it's available. Thanks again for your involvement and support of the site. |

Thanks Rev! |

I am real interested to see how this optic pans out.
I would love to see some good old fashioned arfcom torture testing, just to see exactly how tough the units are. |
If the price is right, I would go for one over a CloneDot anyday.

The price looks pretty right on SWFA, let me know when you want to test one in the arctic (send ammo too)

How is the magnifier going to attach to the strikefire? Is it threaded or some sort of quick attach mechanisim?
Sam, I noticed on your original post that you list the doubler and choice of mounts as being included with the scope. However, on your website ad you have the low mount and no doubler listed in the "Included with the Vortex StrikeFire Red Dot" description. Will the doubler and high mount choice be included with the scope, or will they be optional items? I just want to be sure to order everything I need for my AR application. Thanks again for the StrikeFire. RM |

It threads into the back of the StrikeFire. |
The website is incorrect and should say that the doubler is included. I've put in a change request to IT to get that fixed. It does include a doubler and a choice of low or high (ar15) mount. I just realized that the link I put up is for the hunting version, not the AR-15 version. I'll get that changed ASAP. We are basically marketing this scope as either for shotgun/turkey hunters (they would want to order with the low mount), or for the AR-15 market (they would order the high mount for co-witness). The mount height is the only difference between the two versions. So, when they are available and you place an order just make sure that you are placing the order for the AR-15 version. Thanks for pointing that out! |
Rev,
The doubler and ring are included with the Strikefire. When ordering, just specify whether you need the low ring or high AR ring. SWFA should be getting both versions listed on their site if you oder through them. Paul |

Thanks Sam & Paul for your quick response. |

For the $129 that SWFA is asking for them (including a mount and doubler), I don't see how I could go wrong!

This sight looks like exactly what I'm looking for.
Could you please elaborate on the paralax issue? * Parallax free past 50 yards. What exactly is paralax under 50 yds going to do for close quarters sighting since thats the main selling point for most AR mounted red dots? Any further details on relese dates? Thanks for your time. edit: Any thoughts as to making a couple different magnifiers available? Maybe a 2x and a 4x? Dont know the feasability of doing so, or what limits size has on things but it may be a real selling point. I know I would like to have the option of having a couple different magnifiers I could attach. Thanks again. |
Parallax free past 50 yards means there will be no POI shift when viewing a target beyond 50 yards, even if your eye isn't centered exactly on the optical axis when viewing through the sight. Under 50 yards there will be some very slight POI shift if you don't have your eye centered in the optical axis, however I don't think this should be a big issue at close ranges since the shift is probably under an inch. As for additional magnifiers, I've got my wheels turning on some pretty cool concepts that I think would be pretty unique for the market, but nothing on paper (or in Solidworks) yet. As we move forward this year I'll be working on this and some other ideas I have, but I don't want to make any promises until the designs are a little more concrete, as they will take some time to develop. No more info in an exact release date yet, but I'll be sure to let everyone know as soon as I know. |
Thanks for coming back with answers. I cant wait for this to be released.
Since SWFA has these listed are they getting the first batch to take care of preorders? If we dont want to wait months after the release should we order from them now? Just wondering about a potential backlog since they are alredy listed. |
Do you know if this sight is compatible with the LaRue LT-129 or LT-150 mounts?
SWFA was one of our first dealers to order them, so they will be one of the first to get them in stock. However, I'm not exactly sure how they run pre-orders so I think the best thing to do would be to contact them directly and ask them about it. |
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. The StrikeFire uses a standard 30mm tube and should have plenty of mounting length for the LT mount to fit. Looking at the LT mount visually from their website, and comparing that with the StrikeFire prototype I have here I don't see anything that might cause interference either. |
I took your advice, and their answer was pure comedy. Basically said the only info they have was ... and posted a link to your site. I got a chuckle out of it anyway. |
Any pics of the other mount option? I have an RRA tactical rail that would require it to lay very low if I wanted a co-witness without removing it.
thanks, can't wait till June! |

I would also like to see a pic of the low mount on an AR. (And an MP5 if you just happen to have one lying around). |

Wow, sorry about that! That certainly doesn't answer your question. I'll see if I can have our sales manager contact SWFA and get some more info for you. I'll update when I know more. |
Sure thing Betty and Herman. Unfortunately, I don't have my AR with me at work today, but I have a blue gun I can snap some pictures of it with. I'll try to get them up later today. Sorry, no MP5 Maybe an excuse to buy one? |
Ok, we heard back from SWFA. They have some on order with us right now, but if the pre-orders exceed what they've already ordered they will be placing an order for more from us. So, the bottom line is, if you are interested in one I would just go ahead and get your pre-order in right away and you should be fine. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer anything else for you! |

Thank you Sam for going out of your way to find me some answers. I'm going to break the news to the financial manager (wife) that I'm placing an order. Looking forward to the release.
Please keep us posted on any future developments or updates on the timeframe. Dont forget the 4X option. |

No problem kwrangln. Don't worry, I haven't forgot about the 4x option. I've got some ideas... |

Sorry, nothing concrete yet. Still looking like around June. |
Just wondering if the dot reticle shown in the picture is what will be shipped when the product is on the market. It look much larger than the reticle on my Aimpoint that has a 4MOA dot. I guess it could just be in the photography, but comparing it to the front sight in the picture it looks pretty big, especially the green dot. Just wondering if the 2MOA reticle described on your page is what is shown. I've tried other color changing reticle sights on the imports and have been unimpressed to put it nicely. I'd like to get over the disappointment and find something of decent quality at a good price for my range toys.
How many levels of intensity will it have? Some of the dual red/green scopes only have a high and low setting. Hopefully there will be more than that.
Is it threaded for a killflash? What is the waterproof depth rating? Thanks |
The dot size might not be correct as that was just a very early prototype. However, part of the reason it might look big is due to the photography. Looking through the scope in person it doesn't look nearly that big. I also had the intensity set pretty high, which makes the dot look bigger. |
When you get a chance can you post a picture of the low mount on an AR from directly behind the gun. I'm curious to know if the sight will become an absolute co-witness at that point or if it will still be slightly higher than the front sight post.
I think any standard aimpoint mount would fit the bill. |

That or just stick with the stock lower 1/3 cowitness. Since I have ZERO experience with optics of any kind, I'll just throw it on the rifle and see what happens. Starting from scratch I dont have any ingrained habits or expectations and figure I'll get used to it right away. Later on going down the line if I try an absolute cowitness I'll probably have an issue, but oh well. It would be the same if I started out with absolute and then tried a lower 1/3 sight, pick yer poison. |
Yeah, I don't think that the lower mount will absolute co-witness with a standard front sight. That mount is really meant to put the optic as low as possible and would probably be best on something like a shotgun.
I'd stick with the high mount or if you want to absolute co-witness try one of the third party mounts available. I'll be out of town for the next week, so I won't be able to get pictures of the low mount from behind until I get back. But I'll try to post them when I get home. |
This may be a better representation of the low mount. It would amount to the same plane that my low mount Aimpoint ring has when mounted on a flat top instead of a raised rail. Hope this helps somebody. If not let me know and I'll remove it. I just made a rectangle to keep everything square and estimated where the top of the front sight post would be.
