I was of the impression that ArmaLite makes their own forgings, but now I wonder. They don't make the barrels or handguards.... We're rapidly running out of stuff here. In 101 reasons to buy, they tell us that they are 100% American made. How much is ArmaLite made??

I don't know the exact answer to your question.
But, it doesn't matter how much is made in house, it matters how good your final product is. ArmaLite puts out a great AR. If you are assuming that many manufactures make all of most in house you should read this thread, and not just one page of it; http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/519837__ARCHIVED_THREAD____Do_any_AR_manufacturers_make_all_of_their_own_parts_to_build_their_AR_s_.html&page=1 |

Machined lower

It was my understanding that Aero made their receivers.

An Aero employee told me so.
Good old Tacoma. They make LWRCI products too. |

When I was the VP of Quality at ArmaLite I remember a lot of receivers being machined in our machine shop. I also made a few trips to the forging house to review their quality. |

I wondered if that might be the case. Usually safest to contract out surge capability.

I have two Armalites that I would put up against almost anything on the market for quality. I am amazed at what people will obsess and lose sleep over.

I'm not being critical. From everything I've read, it appears to me that ArmaLite is still "the most authentic" AR out there, bar none. I've been trying to find anything wrong, ever since I bought my M15A4B SPR, and haven't found it yet. Other people I talk to, with their LaRue, Noveske, DD, and so forth get mad, because they can't find anything to fault with my rifle either. AR means ArmaLite.
A company that takes great pride in producing their very own billet or extruded receivers is heard only by an ignorant audience. It becomes more gratifying to own an ArmaLite, the more I learn about AR quality in general. Thank you. |

If you get a chance, take a look at the history on their web site.
The last update was in 2010 and it has gone from seven pages to sixteen pages from once I remember it first coming out. ArmaLite history |

This list is old and out dated... a couple updated that I know of and there may be more that I don't...
