[Last Edit: AAC]
Certain AAC silencers with the 18T mounts can be upgraded at the owners expense to the standard 51T mounting platform.
To find out if your silencer qualifies for this option please review the below requirements and info. 1. Plug welded silencer cannot be upgraded (multiple dimples on tube) 2. Must send pictures to get a quote 3. Upgrade at your own risk - Due to the procedure and varying condition of the silencers in rare cases the tube cannot be repaired. We do not know the condition until it is cut open hence "at your own risk". 4. $250 upgrade charge* Please note this is a UPGRADE and not a warranty claim. For any 18T silencers that do not qualify for this option we can certainly fix or repair your silencer free of charge. Product questions - Parts & Repair Phone: 770.925.9988 *$250 is dependent on condition of silencer - cost my vary. |

Interesting. I do have some questions.
1. What is a 'plug welded' silencer? Mine is an M4-1000 purchased new at the end of 2010 and has the dual clips 2. No problem, I can do that 3. What exactly does this mean? I'm going to assume that if you (AAC), are replacing your 18T mounting system with your 51T mounting system, it will leave AAC within your 'spec' and should look/function just like a 556-SD. If my assumption is incorrect, please give more detail. 4. Worth every penny if I don't have to worry about my can shooting loose |

I'm interested in this as well. Hoping my dual spring m41000 can be modified. What's the turn around on this?

What exactly does #3 on your list mean? "at your own risk".

So what happens if, as an example, mine is one of those rare cases where, you cut it open and it turns out it can't be repaired? SOL?
Is there any concern with welding on an area that was welded prior? Or are you shifting the weld line down the length of the tube a little? Sorry for all the questions! |

View Quote This is a very valid question... "At your own risk" looks to be a cover for a case of SOL! I'd really think about upgrading but risking the suppressor in cutting it open makes me more than a little hesitant... |

so what about the adapters? Will you exchange them for 51T, or do we have to purchase new ones to replace them?

Have you guys dome this to any cans yet? I don't won't to be the Guinea pig unless there's something in it for me

My can was sent in about 7 weeks ago for this upgrade. Still in line I'm told. I will report here when it is done.

They are not just changing parts out. They will gut the can, weld in different baffles, and weld in a new mounting system. How long ago did you send your element in? |

Who had no idea it was that involved? I thought it would be basically milling out the rear area to accommodate the latch. I sent my element in back in 2012 or 2013? It was when they first announced it and it's my understanding they stopped it? |

If you simply wish to upgrade then yes you do need to buy correct mounts to which you upgraded to. Do not misconstrue this with a warranty conversion, this is a voluntary program. You could also look at it in a different application, if you have a 5.56 rifle with a 762-SDN-6 silencer and switch barrels to convert to 300blk you need to buy 30 cal mounts. |

Once this conversion is done does the lifetime warranty still apply?

cajun22 - Does AAC still have your can?
I really want to here from people who have had this done (has anyone received their upgraded cans yet?), see pictures etc.. |

Mine was done in about a 5 week turn around. Looks just like a new can on their website.
|
|
|
I have mine back also. The finish is not as smooth as the original but that doesn't matter to me. Took about 8 weeks from door to door. Have not tried it yet.

Looking for feedback from anyone who has had this done. How is the fit? are you happy with it? was accuracy affected?
My M41K turns my SPR into a shotgun, will this upgrade improve the lockup and accuacy? Thanks |

I just had a 762SD upgraded from the 18 tooth spring loaded mount to the 51 tooth mount latch. This was done primarily because I'm very vested in the AAC cans based on mounts that I've purchased for various rifles and the number of AAC rifle cans I own. All but this one had the 51 tooth mounting system, so it made sense to me to get the conversion done. I shipped my silencer to them about 6 weeks ago, give or take, and picked it up from UPS this morning. I'm please with the job. I had not used my old can that much, and it was primarily on a bolt action rifle. One could tell it wasn't brand new by simply looking at the baffles. On the silencer I got back, the baffles appear new. I do not know if they replaced them or if they simply cleaned them up. The ratchet system also works well on a couple of rifles I tried it on. I have not shot it yet since getting it back. I may try and hit the range this weekend though, and will take it out and see how it performs. I'm wondering if I'll hear a difference on it vs my 762SDN6

I am looking for more success stories on this.
Has anybody done m4-1000 18t upgrade? pictures, qualms, success stories, did you can get destroyed etc? |
|
|
I went ahead and had the upgrade done. They basically rebuilt the can, baffles and all. Work was top notch, and the mount works very well. I can swap it and a saker 556 on my Noveske spr and see no accuracy or poi difference. turn around time was like 5 weeks if I remember correctly. This has made the M41K my most expensive can by far, I don't even want to add up the total cost. At least now I have a usable can. I have even decided it sounds better than the Saker. AAC are good folks, they don't have to offer this service, and for the amount of work done this is likely not profitable for them.

For those looking, just spoke with them and it is no longer offered.
