2 beautiful uppers arrived today. Realized I now am part of the problem. How do you tell 2 caliber ar' upper's appart when they have identical furniture and barrel lengths? I assume they are stamped somewhere... Anyway now have very similar 5.56 and 300BO uppers. ok, stared at them some more, still can not see the markings, but their muzzle divides have visably different bore size and the 300 has a shorter gas tube. |
|
Woohoo! Completed!
.300BO 16" 10.5" Black w OD poly, unassembled. The only change I'm making to it is using a Kaw Valley inline compensator instead of the Tranquilo brake No silencers here in illannoy so going for the more pleasant shooting experience. But I need a lower... the only one I have spare right now is a dark bronze cerakote no-name and this rifle deserves a LaRue. |

Are most of you experiencing a snug or loose fit, when it comes to sliding the barrel extension into the upper?

...Barrel and barrel extension or barrel extension and upper receiver?....Also, what color upper out of curiosity.... View Quote |

Sorry, I fixed it. Barrel extension to upper receiver. Any color. I'm just curious as to what others are seeing. I suspect that the cerakoted versions may be better but I wanted to ask. View Quote |

There must be a different strategy for the OBR and interchangable rifles like the PredatOBR. I had an OBR once that required a hammer and a good bit of effort to remove or install the barrel. That rifle is unbelievably accurate. My neighbor has it now.

...You and I are thinking along the same lines, I think....My theory is that the uppers were designed to allow room for added finish that makes the black anodized.....less than LT tight.... View Quote |

Black 6.5...easily hand fit, no pressure needed. This is my first larue so not sure if that's normal or not but now I'm curious haha.
I'll shoot it and see what it does. |

FDE predatAR (lightweight 5.56) arrived last week. No go on my colt lower or I was not willing to hit it hard enough to fit. Ended up on an Aero Precison FDE lower, fits very snug but no hammering needed. Have not shot it yet, debating on optic. Given the reputation for accuracy, was thinking something magnified. My choices are Nikon M223 3-12x, Steiner p4xi 1-4x or an Aimpoint H2. Open to suggestions!

Got mine in today. UDE on an LT lower I bought a couple years ago is a pretty tight fit. Had to hit it with my purse a few times. Needless to say there are no gaps and absolutely no wobble so I'd say a perfect fit. I couldn't ask for a better fit or finish. Thanks again Mark and team for an outstanding product!

Haven't had the time to study thread as much as I'd like ... Is everybody liking the kit as is ? Keeping in mind that the "daylight" issue is non-existent with the receiver extension installed. ML View Quote |

ML View Quote The kit itself and value are amazing. Thanks for doing this. If you keep this kit/offer going it'll change the way people build or buy ARs. The components and value are that good. When you also consider the little things included like complete lower parts kit, wrench, TAC, barrel extension/gas tube cap-protector thingy, Dillo Dust(!), etc...it feels like Christmas |

Are most of you experiencing a snug or loose fit, when it comes to sliding the barrel extension into the upper? View Quote That was good enough for me as I've seen what those factory assembled kits are shooting like with off-the-shelf Hornady ammo and I wanted to duplicate that 'assembled at the factory' accuracy results. So i just used the recommended moly grease and torqued on the barrel nut. My upper shoots the Hornady eld-m black ammo into tiny clover leafs. Very pleased. |
|
My UU wouldn't fit on Daniel Defense lower. It was too tight to even try a hammer. It did fit on Anderson and Stag.

Have enjoyed larue quality for years, just don't like key mod, think there's any hope in the future for a m lok version? Or do I get over my dislike of keymod

My black Grendel kit barrel wasn't very snug nor very loose. I was curious so I confirmed with a phone call that they don't bed the barrel extensions to the upper receiver with loctite or anything when factory assembling. Same with the gas block. I really happy. Thank you for doing this. Cant wait to heat it up ASAP. |

Is movement/rattle normal for these stocks? I have been reading up on fixes and they range from hairdryer/vise to a strip of moleskin on the rear part of the tube.

I didn't ask for it either but did notice it and realized nobody would be there probably. But I have a myChoice (I think its called) account with UPS and just had them change shipping to my work address while en route instead of home. Worked great and still showed up the same day. View Quote I'll pick up my 300BO tomorrow, and not a moment too soon before the storm hits and it will be a floodin' down in Texas. The 300 was backordered until today (7/28), Grendel still GTG with mags in the order (8/5). |

I did the same as you, Baron. The RAT stock was definitely tighter fitting on the Larue extension then on my Spikes extension. It wasn't bad on the Spikes, just better on the Larue.

A strip of the soft half of Velcro installed along the inside top face of the buffer tube opening, running the entire depth of the cavity, will snug it up without causing damage to anything and will allow adjustment.
