I use my rifles primarily as hunting tools. While I have tried a few tactical scopes, I don't use them to range targets. After purchasing a Gunwerks G7 range finder, I started using the elevation adjustments to great success, which until recently was a feature found most
y on tactical scopes.
I need a new to me glass for my Heavy tAR. I really like the Mark 6. It gives me what I need in terms of power, and I've never had a problem that wasn't solved by Leupold nor a failure in the field. Their stuff works for me, and the 1x6 I have on my Costa, while being put through some tough conditions and beat on really hard, just keeps working. Right now, it is the only tactical scope I own, with the remainder being vx3 and vx6s on my other rifles.
I started using the ballistic dial on a 2x12 I put on my bolt elk rifle. I only Really needed it once when it really counted, there is one elk I'm pretty sure I would not have gotten without it. I always outshoot the guys at hunting camp sight in day and the combination of rangefinder/firing solution/scope makes it happen. I'm definitely no marksman.
Brings me back to what I'm going to top the FDE. I've got access to a good hardly used VX6 3-18. Top it with a custom ballistic dial for 70 bucks cut for my specific load, and I can't see a down side. Range it with my G7, twist to the correct range, and if the wind isn't browning too hard, it's dead nuts. Is there more to th Mark 6 over the VX6 than a milled reticle? Is there more to a tactical scope that I am missing?
