Can see the advantages of both, having trouble flipping the coin.
Any advice? Thanks |

My point of view. You already have the 16" 308 barrel, so why go for a comparable 18" 260 Rem barrel. The 260 is a long range cartridge and the extra 4 inches with the 22" barrel will help with velocity.

Coin ended up on it's edge every time, ordered both. Problem solved.

I think I am leaning 18" because it still offers superior ballistics to the 16" .308 and I do not like super long/heavy ARs.
There are good reasons to go with either though, depending on preference. |

View Quote Update : Dang it first email cost me $3200 and some change, and that second email cost me almost $1600 more. Ordered both lengths, and a case, and a fde mount, I might have to rob my Gen 2 razor to mount on this. And get a NF, or another gen 2 razor. My wallet is really hurting now, I might have to sell or trade some guns to buy some decent glass. Still a win thou. |

I am trying to decide as well. I will have a Tranquilo on this rifle as well. On a 22" barrel that would give me some "reach out there" without firing a shot.

$400 for the complete Sparrel with PST. Which means I just bought a $3200 gun that I will probably never shoot since I'll most likely just drop the 260 barrel in.

I went with the 22". Didn't know I 'needed' it until I got that damn email

My logic was that I would never be carrying this rifle so why not try to squeeze all that I can out of it. Add the TQ and it should be even better.
It will be quite a while before I even use the 260 barrel. |
|
I ordered the 22" barrel. Will pair it up with my tOBR and keep the FDE Heavy tAR with it's 7.62 16" barrel. It will more than likely become my primary whitetail rifle. I will have fun playing with the 260.
I have two Tranquilos that have been in jail for over 11 months now. One will go on the tOBR, and one will go on the FDE Heavy tAR. My current can works great on my tAR. I ordered an adapter for 556 as well. Going to have fun swapping stuff around. |

Seems like every serious shooter with 260 experience, I've read, says the optimal barrel length is 26". I haven't really seen anyone make an argument for an 18". One opinion I found basically said there'd be no point in shooting 260 through an 18". I'd be a waste of its capabilities. What say you fellas?
|
|
Any barrel length below 26" in .260 you are less than optimal for true long range work; however, the .260 will always outperform the .308 in the same configuration (in terms of drop/wind drift due to the high BC of the 6.5mm bullets).
With that said, my AI bolt gun in .260 has a 24" barrel, and I would never think of going with a shorter barrel in a bolt gun (ability to achieve desired MV). However, in a gas gun configuration some of the desire of this platform is its compactness, and a 22" barrel with suppressor gets quite long. I will definitely be running a suppressor full time, and for me, the 18" barrel is the best option. Those who choose 22" barrels will definitely benefit from increased velocities, and I am sure that they will exceed expectations. Just balance what your needs and desires are for your rifle configuration. The .260 is a great round, and I am glad that ML has done the T&E to make it available as an option in his rifles. Hopefully, LT team starts shipping these out ASAP so we can get some range reports! |

Just glad we have choices. |

Would really like a 22" sparrel if perhaps someone buys an 18 and doesn't want a 22
|

Just so I'm not not missing something, us normal folk haven't been given the option to buy the barrels yet, right? Just the fde tar buyers?

Do you guys have a link to this sale? This isn't the new BuildAR list, is it?

I bought both barrel lengths and will have cans on both so "add an inch" if you will. I would have been run off here if I didn't as the standard answer is "get both"...

22" for me. 16" 308 does everything I want it to out to 500, and is perfectly serviceable out to 750. Drops with the 22" 260 with Hornady 130gr ELD Match at 1k will be like shooting 168 SMKs at 750, and the 260 will be mostly for steel so the length is a non-issue and I want all the velocity I can get to poke out to 1200.
|
|
Anyone have pictures of what either barrel would look like on the same length rail as what would be on the new FDE heavy tAR? I'm debating using the awesome price that was sent out to the buyers though originally I intended on keeping this as the 7.62. My obsession with 260 that I've developed with my AI has me wondering what it would look like.
