I'm thinking maybe the 139 Scenars. Anyone here make 260 from 308 brass? I'm kind of lazy when it comes to by tOBR. For 308 I've been using pre prepped once fired Lake City brass and have gotten consistent sub MOA performance using them. I tend to lose brass a lot from the gas gun so haven't bothered with Lapua or anything like that. For now I'll be using a brass catcher to reclaim the Lapua 260s but I don't like using it because sometimes it causes shells to hang up. I'd rather make my own from 308 brass and just accept losing a percentage of them. In anticipation of a sparrel, I finally ordered 400 Lapua brass. They are ex$pensive! I am going to also order some Winchester brass in 7mm-08 and just one step neck them down to 260. I already have plenty of primers, need to get some slower powder. Going to try the 140 Berger Hybrids. Where did you get your brass from? I had some Cabelas gift cards and they were having a 10% off plus free shipping so I ordered from them. MIDWAY USA also has plenty in stock. They did have thiers on sale for a few days for $93.99/100 but it is back up to thier regular price now at $104. When it goes on sale again I will order more. |

This has probably been hashed out somewhere, but to ask again, is there a reason .260 was chosen vs 6.5 CM?
I am not decided between 260 and 6.5 CM, but was leaning 6.5 CM. As we all know, they both shoot the same bullet, use .308 head, and COAL is about the same, they are darned near identical - depending on what you read. 6.5 CM is the one getting all the hot press these days and really seems to be firing people up, while 260 never really took off, and seems on it's way to a forgotten round with the ascension of the 6.5CM displacing it. So LaRue's choice here is interesting to me, and there's something subtle here that might be important. LaRue thinks about stuff, and quietly makes smart engineering choices. So why did LaRue skip the highly popular 6.5 CM, and go with .260 instead? |
|
|
It was a request from DOD for a .260.
I ordered a .260 with a 22" barrel and am looking forward to another great rifle from LaRue. I am hoping for a 6.5 CM option in the future as I already shoot that cartridge out of an AI rifle with a 26" barrel. Hornady makes excellent ammo in 6.5 CM and the Amax loads are about the same price as FGMM in .308. Unfortunately the good .260 rounds are much more expensive. |

Lapua Brass, and Berger 140's are inbound! Going to order some Dies and a Wilson headspace gauge. All I need now is a sparrel! Come on already Mark, at least let us pre-order. I can wait a little
Oh, and one last thing, I am still waiting on the NEW MBT-2SA (A for ADJUSTABLE), it would make a nice pairing with the 260. I want to dial her down to a mere 8 or 10 oz pull. |

What situations where you would carry it great distances could you not use a short barrel/762 with a can? tOBR is made for these decisions to be easy |

I was thinking on the 18" because of the can but I want to use the rifle for what it's made for, I decided on 22". If I change my mind it can always be cut down or throw an 18" barrel cartridge on it when there available.

I went with 22 also I think my 18" obr in7.62 will do anything I need out to 800 and from there I'll let the 260 shine.i also have a Tranquillo in jail but I'm guessing it will be just fine on the dedicated long range 260.The only question I have now is what will show up first the Tranquillo or the 260

Was considering a 7.62 OBR ... but when I ran across the .260 PredatOBR I decided a 22" version .260 and an 18" 7.62 sounded like a better option ... Now the wait ... haha

on the list now too.
looked hard at the 18, but with RSTA OTB suppressor needing a host, the 18 didn't have enough barrel to use. sooo 22 it is. also added 14.5 7.62 barrel combo no rush. out of country till maybe Feb. |

pin and weld somewhere else. separate option, weapon will ship with 22 inch barrel.
on me to comply probably could get Larue to do it, just didn't want to bother them as its an easy fix I can get done locally, let the Larue team just keep pumping weapons out. |
