Apparently I'm too new to post anything over 2000 characters or some nonsense so in continuation....
I decided to actually post because comment after comment seemed to try and place blame, and it became incredibly clear that many of these replies to the video were being made by people who obviously didn't watch the video. Or at least didn't watch it in it's entirety. The defense of the LaRue name was almost like someone defending their religion. It sounds like the dude just got a problematic upper, big deal it happens. But just like the Ford vs. Chevy forums blind allegiance took over.
I'll freely admit that I'm not some LaRue expert but in my personal experience with LaRue I've been quite happy with my orders..(although I think a little more pro active information during the wait would have been well received by the community). There is no denying that the build quality is outstanding and even out of it's short 14.5" barrel my rifle is incredibly accurate.
And just to further validate that I do in fact own a LaRue Rifle....

Most of my firearms come from relatively boutique manufacturers, LaRue, PWS, STI, Strayer Voigt Inc., etc. ranging from 2 grand for the STI 1911s to way further north of 5 grand than I care to admit for the SVI 2011 (that was an 18mo wait). If you have a problem or question, you call and they take care of you, the service is part of what you pay for because they stand behind what they make. With that, they also have very good recommendations on what works and what doesn't work with their products and
are there to help you get them running 100%. I don't understand why you'd purchase one of these products and go monkey fuck it. That said, if you do go monkey fuck it, OWN IT. Therein is where many people take issue with the video at face.
As to it being a lemon, I don't think anyone is above making a lemon (except maybe SVI). However, if I sent my 2011 into Brandon at SVI or my AR to Mark (let alone sending it in twice) and they said it was GTG, and then I couldn't get it to run right, all signs point to something I'm doing wrong (or in nutters case, done to it). Based on their track record, the probability is near zero they would check off on something twice that didn't work just to put it out the door -- and alleging they did such a thing is
THE big issue. At this point, you pick up the phone and get the advice they're there to provide you to get it to run, or take a drill to it, I guess?
The thing with nutter, which he demonstrates in all his abortions on youtube, is that thinks too highly of himself to LISTEN. "Well, I do X,Y,Z with all the stuff I buy, so I did X,Y,Z as I always do with this other product and now it doesn't work so it must be bad, be damned with your recommendations and experience."
That attitude is completely contrary to the part of the deal you strike with buying expensive products. You put in the effort on your end to listen, learn, and take the advice you're given from those intimately familiar with them to run them right. I can't imagine calling up Brandon or Mark and telling them how
I think their products should be run, especially after I've gone and fucked with it. Furthermore, it's a real dick move to go and bash a product you've 1) fucked with intermittently over an 8 year period and then 2) completely ignored any advice from the horses mouth to run it properly.
Then there's the simple fact that you can't do the same thing when it's cold as when it's warm with many of these products. It gets very cold here, if I run my STI/SVIs in the winter the same way that I run them in the summer, they will not work. Does that make it a poor product? Not in the slightest. It means only quality and/or hotter loads or oil instead of grease, because those things are tight. For the same reason they are extremely accurate, which IS what you were asking for when you paid the premium for them, isn't it? The same goes for the ARs.
In summary, don't be like nutter.
