I recently received my new 20" 7.62 OBR, and I finally had a chance to get out to the range with it this past weekend.
This was my first experience shooting an OBR suppressed, so I'm wondering if there is anyone else with a similar setup who can comment on my experience.
My setup:
20" 7.62 OBR w/ a PRS stock
Nightforce ATACR on a LT111
Thunderbeast 30BA
PSR Atlas bipod
2011 M118LR bulk/loose packed ammo
Experience:
I started out on the 50 yd range unsuppressed to make sure I was on the paper. After two shots I was zeroed and moved over to the 100 yd range. I re-zeroed at 100 in about 4 shots, and the first 4 out of the next 5 shots were sub 1/2-MOA (I pulled the 4th). At this point, I was thrilled with the performance, so I decided to attach the TB 30BA. My first two shots were about 4" high, so I dialed the elevation turret to re-zero. At this point, I remembered I had not switched the PST to suppressed, so I flipped the switch over and fired again. Whoa! I was way off my POA. I thought this was odd, so I fired two more shots. All three shots were all over the place. Ultimately, I switched the PST back to "unsuppressed" and the groups tightened up again, so I went about my business.
Questions:
1. Is it acceptable to run a can while the PST is set to "unsuppressed", or will I tear up my extractor (or even something else)?
2. Is the factory spring G2G running a can while the PST is set to "unsuppressed", or should I look at swapping? I only had one FTF, and I think it was while the PST was set to "suppressed". Again, I want to make sure I'm not going to tear stuff up.
3. Shooting at 1000 yards - It seemed like I needed more elevation than the scope/mount/cant could provide, so I was using the reticle to add some more elevation myself. Is there a better mount than the LT111 for long-range; something with additional cant builtin, perhaps?
This rifle is an absolute dream, and I could not be happier with it or with the package I took to the range (all bought from LaRue; the TB notwithstanding). The PRI gas-buster worked perfectly by the way - no gas or particulate blow-back while running the can.
