Today was a great day for shooting here in TX. Upper 70s and virtually no wind, and what little wind was present was a head wind on my range. I spent most of the day shooting various rifles out to 1000 yards. I do a lot of shooting at 1000 and beyond but typically it is in the canyons of the TX panhandle shooting rocks. Rarely do I shoot 1000 yards on paper for actual groups. After shooting the OBR at 400 I moved out to 1000. The conditions were too nice and I couldn't resist stretching the 18" Larue OBR out a little. Here are some groups from two loads at 400 yards. The loads are the same with the difference being one was using LC brass and the other Lapua Palma brass. You can see the Lapua group is on the exact POA, while the LC load is higher. The Lapua load is 30-40 fps slower than the LC brass load. Good visible evidence of how extreme spread effects your long range accuracy and consistency.

I moved out to 1000 yards. I use Ballistic AE for IPhone as a ballistic engine. Using Ballistic I dialed 39 MOA up and 1 MOA left to accommodate the @12" of spin drift. I then fired the 4 shots in the picture below. Even with the mild conditions mirage prohibited seeing bullet hole past 400 yards. Once I checked the target I was very pleased with the results. I would not say surprised as this particular rifle never lets me down. I have shot it out to 1760 yards with stellar results. I posted a you tube video here last year shooting it at 1400 yards hitting a man sized target 4 out of 5 times with no sighter shots, in a significant cross wind. It is just a fantastic machine.
