I'm going to be taking one of my LaRue rifles deer hunting this season and I wanted to start working up a load to practice with. I will be hunting western whitetail, which are relatively small compared to other deer. I was thinking of using one of the following Nosler bullets for my hunting load: 165 gr. Ballistic Tip, 165 gr. Partition, 180 gr. Ballistic Tip, 180 gr. Partition, 180 gr. Accubond, or 180 gr. E-Tip. One question I have, can the 180 gr bullets, especially the plastic tipped ones, be loaded to mag length? I'm thinking if I have trouble fitting any of the aforementioned loaded bullets into my LaRue mag it would be the 180 gr. E-Tip since it is a lead free bullet. For those of you that have reloaded for your 7.62 LaRue's what is the maximum COAL you have been able to fit into your metal LaRue mags? For those of you that load hunting rounds for your 7.62 LaRue's, what is your preferred load?
Thanks in advance for any help.
