Tell you what. For those of you that are smitten with your $3500 Field Grade rifles, I am happy to trade your spot in line for Match Grade barrel. You guys seem to be perfectly happy with Field Grade for the past 12 months so Im sure you wont mind waiting another 1, 3, 6, 12 months for what you paid for. If it were any other company, I wouldnt be putting up with this crap and I suspect many others wouldnt either. I support TX businesses but LT hasnt made it easy to stay loyal over the past couple of years. View Quote Very tempted just to get the barrel nut. Hmmmm. |

Come on, now! You guys that are shooting bug-holes with your FGs shouldn't be thumbing your noses at those of us that are not. You don't know how lucky you are! Not all of the FGs shoot nearly that well. Mine doesn't. I posted some of the groups sizes I'm getting with the FG in my 18" 556 PredatAR, and was accused of being a LaRue hater and attacked. A lot.
Heck, I'm not a LaRue hater, I own four of them! But I am a consumer. I called LaRue and asked them if the groups I'm getting are normal for a FG, or is there a problem with the rifle that I need to send it in and have looked at? They promptly quit answering my calls and emails, and it was seven months later before one of them would reply to me! Seven Months! And you know what the answer was? "It is what it is, and what it is, is a field grade." I waited seven months for that answer. Don't worry. Be happy. So you lucky guys with good-shooting FGs shouldn't poke fun at the rest of us. You really are going to end up with an extra match barrel, no matter how it's actually marked. And me? I'm gonna drive my FG into the ground and tie a goat to it, because that's about all it's good for. Good Luck and Good Shooting, Tommy |

The "Field Grade" barrels are in all likelihood the same barrel from Lothar Walther that you'd have gotten if Mark had not brought barrel mfg. in-house. We ARE getting a freebie and we DID get what we paid for at the time of our orders as the "Match Grade" and "Field Grade" criteria did not exist. We got the barrel we would have gotten originally, and are getting a FREE LaRue barrel too. I'm still waiting for mine at 11 months and 5 days, and even if my barrel shot MOA+ a tad bit and was not a tight shooter, I at least had a freaking operable and supremely reliable rifle during some times I thought I may need it. Thank the man for giving us such a HUGE freebie and covering a metric shit load of shipping costs, extra LT magazines with the 7.62s, a sling, and a tool box + roll, the lower ban shipments and hands-down the best DI AR to boot. It doesn't take a brown-noser to thank someone for legitimately giving a crap and recognize we made the choice to either accept or decline the "Field Grade" without bitching. |

My understanding was that LT Field barrels were not up to par with LT standards. A year ago, LW barrels were up to par to LT standards so I don't think you can assume that the Field Grade barrels are the "same barrel from Lothar Walther that you'd have gotten if Mark had not brought barrel mfg". There are a whole bunch of OBR, tAR, and Costa owners that would argue and like to think that that their LW barrels aren't the same as Field Grade. You're right, at the time there were no Field Grade vs. Match Grade criteria but that is because it was assumed that all barrels from LT were Match Grade. Quoted:

Nobody asked for a freebie. That was a LT decision. Some people got extra magazines, sling, tool box, rollpack. Some did not. The offering has changed over 2 years. New orders do not get any of the above. Nobody is asking for or demanding a freebie. Simply asking for what was paid for. To date, I have not received a freebie so I have nothing to be thankful for yet. Quoted:
It doesn't take a brown-noser to thank someone for legitimately giving a crap and recognize we made the choice to either accept or decline the "Field Grade" without bitching. Not all folks were given the choice by LT. Some folks bought their rifle from a vendor (e.g. Riflegear) or private seller. I do not remember how Riflegear described the Field Grade situation but they did not mention it when I spoke to them over the phone. I think our hang-up is the fact that we weren't given alot of detail around the Field grade process at the time and have received little to no communication since then. Having already waited a year or more, some with a $2k lower sitting around, most folks jumped at the chance to get something, anything. If we'd have been given the option of 1) Wait another 1-2 months for Match Grade rifle or 2) Receive Field barrel now and Match barrel a year from now ....I think more people would have just declined. Mark F's exact words were "The rifle will ship with a coupon for a no-cost follow-on Match-Grade barrel that we'll send out once we're satisfied with our setup'. Well LT has been satisfied with their setup for months now. At some point the coupon redemption turned into "We'll send you Match Grade barrel once we're completely caught up". |

The point is, it all was by choice. If purchased from a third party, passing the Field Grade knowledge on to the consumer is not a liability of LaRue. Out of all the Field Grade barrels sent out what are there like two that aren't 1/2-1 MOA shooters? Let us also remember that not all shooters are created equal. I don't like waiting for anything, but biting the hand that feeds us is very childish and indicative of the no-patience, want everything now, my way or the highway hipster turds that have entered the market from momma's basement.

I think its safe to say the barrel replacement program has gone on longer than it should have based on what everyone was told. It was a great idea in theory. For those of us that got good fg barrels there should be no complaints. For those that got a legitimately bad fg barrel, I would be pretty upset. With the exception of texasred, i havent seen any pics that would qualify as a "less than acceptable fg barrel"

As an "authority" on these Field Grade barrels, I have owned ALL three barrel lengths since I got my 7.62 beast and not one of them has been a lemon. So far they've all outshot me! I have groups that are consistently sub-moa, VERY sub-moa. I currently have an 18" that I traded my 14.5" for and before that I had the 16". Want to know how a certain length shoots? How the rifle feels with that barrel and so on? Go ahead, ask away.
I just started reloading this year and haven't used any reloads in this rifle yet. I normally shoot Federal or PRVI when I head out to the land. |

He was part of the Balkan Air Force, that flew supplies and ammunition to the Yugoslav gurrillas. I've been hearing those stories my whole life! A few years ago I commisioned an artist, who draws warbirds, to pencil a C-47 for my Dad. I went on-line and downloaded a LOT of pictures, then sat with my Dad and went through every one. He would point out features that his plane had and I would mark up the drawings; which I then submitted to the artist, who compiled them into a depiction of my Dad's aircraft. We even got the nose art, which was a "Vargas Girl". Found the old Vargas Girl calendars on-line, and my Dad picked out the one that was on his plane, along with the legend "BLONDIE". I don't know which was better; spending the time with my Dad going through the pictures (and hearing the stories), or seeing the look on his face when I presented him with the finished product. Both were good... :-) Tommy |
