Which would you guys pick and why? Mostly weekend warrior type stuff at the range/property, maybe a carbine class or two (my intended purposes). The weight of the tAR certainly looks appealing....but I like the pinned 14.5" length and PST on the tOBR, and we all know how awesome the OBR barrels are....any advice? Sorry if this is an old thread.......

My vote is for tOBR. For the reasons you listed. Can't go wrong with either.

I'm trying to make the same decision. Have a predaTAR on order since May but I am considering a suppressor and would love a shorter barrel and the PST.
Called yesterday and was told the [regular] predatObr's haven't even began production and no estimated time to begin.
Anyone who has a CE tObr and predaTAR 16" care to do a side by side comparison picture?

Do you own or plan on owning a suppressor? If not the PredatAR if so the PredatOBR.

Can't really compare as I only own the Tar but pretty sure the Tar could handle all your weekend fun and any carbine classes you throw at it. Ues the Obr barrels are well known for accuracy but the Tar barrels are not slouches and I know this for fact. If suppressed fun is in your future I would wait on a Tobr but if not then the lighter weight and lower cost would appeal to me more. With the saved cash you can go bigger on optics or tons more ammo for those weekends and classes. Just my thoughts but hope to add a Tobr to my collection someday to go with the Tar. Either way its a Larue so its got to be good.

Quick question, why is this? I have a Tar on order, and I don't have plans on getting a suppressor in the near future at all, but I'm just curious!

The PST that is on the Obr barrels allows the selection of suppressed fire and non suppressed fire. I know some people shoot Tars suppressed so pretty sure its just to get the maximum suppressed performance from your gun.

Might confuse the issue, but the PredetAR barrel is the same diameter as the OBR barrel starting at the barrel nut up to the gas block. Beyond the gas block it begins the smaller diameter. It would take an extreme number of rounds in one session to see the groups beginning to ope up using a PredetAR. So, bottom line is the PST gas block as the deciding factor.

I did not know this, I own a pred but not an OBR. This is true even for the 762?

Thanks for all the input guys....but are people having issues running TARS suppressed? I do own a can or two, and may run it with it attached. Does the PST block aid significantly in suppressed fire?

What about the weight difference? That account for any pluses on the TAR side? I didn't know that barrel info either.... Interesting.

Yes sir. I have an 18 inch PredetAR in 7.62. A bright flashlight in the vent holes will show the barrel and how it is machined. I knew I like mine and the smaller profile barrel didn't concern me. I use it for hunting mostly and even on range days I only shoot about 40 rounds so the barrel doesn't really have much opportunity to open up the groups.

Excellent to know thank you. I do have a predatobr on order in 762 mainly wanted it for the pst.

As for running a suppressed predatar, I am running an AAC 762sd and have had no problems so far.

I have the PredaTAR in 762. I should have my SF can this month.
I'm planning on running it.
I've shot a couple hundred rounds in about 2-3 hours time and didn't notice the groups opening up..
I did elect to get a second 30 cal can. I have a 762SDN6, but didn't want to put the 51t FH on the Larue.
I will put the SF K can on it.. If they would have had this when I bout the Tar I prolley would have gotten the PST.
I don't think I'll get TOBR just cause of the PST.

YMMV

That Costa PredatOBR emphasis on the PredatOBR part, is something else! Larue hit a home run with that one!

However my answer to the OP's question, get both, you can't go wrong with either or!

For what it's worth, I originally ordered a PredatAR in December, but what I really wanted is what the PredatOBR is... So when in early April I found out they came out with it, I changed my order to a PredatOBR (7.62 of course)..... While I wanted a 7.62 that was lighter than my M-1A (Troy Chassis) to keep with me while backpacking in the High Sierra's (bear country), I also wanted it to have a barrel that could handle multiple nutjobs (Zombies, if you will) at the same time. I figure I will have been waiting for my LaRue a year by the time they get the 7.62 PredatOBR's out.... My order is for a 16"..... I check the LaRue website daily to see if a production date is listed yet......
