For those of us running stealthy setups; for the first time I am tempted to look at lighter hand guards. My 12in LT is 16oz, plus almost 3 oz of plastic rail ladders in FD
Other companies are under 13oz, and come in FDE, saving a third of a pound. Now someone is managing to get one under 10oz. I know the LT attachment system is the best. . . .. but there's a lot of unused metal on my LT hand guard, and I'm considering my options. No one has come forward with an actual weight of the hand guard on the PredatarPredatobr. . . but it would seem to be a short leap to imagine an LT product with the great LT lockup AND a lighter forend for those of us who have built complete LT rifles from the BO period (Before OBR). Weight savings is what the PredatAR is all about.
Folks also wanted the longest handguard available. At around 14 oz and roughly 14.5" in length, the handguard on the 16" PredatAR incorporates what we believe is the lightest CNC-machined handguard design, without sacrificing strength and utility. Unfortunately, the current system only works on the PredatAR receiver, via the proprietary flange (which provides a free-float barrel in it's purest form). |

Mark, I understand and agree with everything you said. I think the OP was asking for a stand-alone product, a la the existing LT handguards. This is especially relevant when the wait time on a LT rifle is getting north of 6 months in some cases. I realize that it's unlikely LT would ever pull the curtain back too far on future products, but I'll put my vote in for something along those lines, as well. |

I'm imagining a hand guard completely compatible with the LT proprietary barrel nut system, but which simply has less metal than the full quad rail. Make it just as strong, but less metal by reducing the amount of rail. Take the Predatar design and change the attachment to work with the older barrel nut, for example. For those of us who are into LT products approaching 5-figure $ amounts over the last decade, I think we could at least hope that we could go light without having to buy an entire rifle. Just sayin'. I like my 10 inch the way it is.
 Diet is the cheapest way to loose weight  . Also load light cartridges to balance out the AR 55 vs 77..  |

If I wanted a company that improved the customer, I'd go to Weight Watchers. LT is in a business of ounces. If the LT answer is "buy a $2k PredatAr," they will lose market share. I would be happy with just being able to buy an OBR upper, stripped or built. Maybe with a choice of lengths for the forend, but that's not needed.

I had an older family friend growing up named Chester. Well he was in the Marines and got sent to a shithole called Korea. No prior to leaving San Fran the normal machine gunner got hemmed up whipping a few Navy guys in a bar. So ole Chester got the honor of carrying the BAR. Now for those of you never had a chance to hold, shoot ,or FF one it’s a heavy SOB.
Well ole Chester’s Gunny come up to him , Keep in mind this Gunny had been in the island hopping campaign from Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima. He tells Chester to start carrying it everywhere on the ship and every time he stops to curl the gun like a weight. So the whole ship ride over Chester curls the BAR. In fact he when he got of the ship at Incheon he had bigger pythons the Hulk Hogan. He said he could handle that BAR around like an M-1 Carbine and could shoot the 1911 like it was a Highstandard 22. So hit the gym or start curling the stealth and it will get lighter |

The predatobr is in demand because it's a few oz lighter than the obr.
The weight savings are not the barrel where it matters It's in the hand guard I can buy a hg that's 5 or 6 oz lighter than LT And cheaper Your buddy on the ship is bs'n you A half pound is huge LT needs to play catchup in the hg market |

Also, I think they have more business than they can shake a stick at... Been that way for year... If business looks like its going to slow down all he has to do is give whip up a new product and folks will burn up the phone and web servers with orders... Its been proven year after year after year... All he has to say is, ""I'll just leave this here (insert link to new product) and Go!!!!""" Bam, thousands of orders... UPS and fedex will hae to staff up.... |
