I have been wanting to do the same. I would like to know if it's GTG.
Keep em good and oiled after rain. The allen bolts that hold the handguard will rust quickly. |

I hope you are just yanking his chain? I shoot in all kinds of weather. Why? You don't get to pick the weather if something were to ever happen, and you needed to shoot out in the weather. Are you a fairweather shooter? I'm pretty sure LaRue built these to withstand all kinds weather conditions, as they do make the finest products around. |

Also get the torque spec for those screws, too loose and they will fall out, too tight and you strip or gall the threads. |

We're talking about an OBR (either 556 or 762), not a predatAR right? IIRC, the monolithic upper rail is chemically bonded to the handguard and upper receiver... mess with it at your own risk.

The rail is removable, or you couldn't change the barrel or gas tube.

First thing after rereading my previous post I want to clarify. I was not calling the OP a dumbass, the dumbass was me for not cleaning it faster. But I am not pulling his chain. Last year I participated in a 4 day event. The weather was cold as hell and misted all four days. At the end of each long day I would haul me and my OBR back to the warm hotel. Where I would wipe it down as best I could. After the four days in the cold mist and four nights in a warm hotel plus the three hour drive home in the case, the Allen bolts that attach the hand guard had started to rust. When I noticed it it was removed as best I could but the effects can still be seen. I to would like to hear a reply from someone a LaRue before I take a wrench to it. I am guessing it would be ok but would like to hear it from the man who made it. |

Based on what I found whilst looking at my 5.56 OBR, there are allen screws..dimpled (I think it's called "staked")...on the inside top of the receiver that appear to fasten the part of the monolithic rail to the top receiver. It looks like with those screws removed, the top rail and handguard could be removed.
As to the chemically bonded aspect of the rail to the receiver/handguard...I don't know, but I'd guess there needs to be some level of disassembly allowed with the rifle without a blowtorch. The handguard/top-rail portion...yeah, that could be bonded (I cannot see any evidence of that), but I'd see no need to put those staked screws AND adhesive on the to ppart of the upper. But then again some people like to wear belts and suspenders at the same time... |

Can we get someone from Larue to comment on this?
Can we remove to clean and oil? If so what are the torque specs for reattachment? Do it / Don't do it? Help please. |

Because no one was man enough to take theirs off.
Actually I had to take it off as I was seeing some surface rust on the barrel. I will do better photos tonight when I can get the gun into the studio. |

If all else fails the "guarantee" will put it back together again. |

To remove the rail means removing the screws on the inside of the upper. I didn't need to go that far.
