Higher corrosion resistance.

Very Nice, will spikes have an alternate muzzle device for those of us in ban states?

Is a good question... BUT, I know Spikes uses great materials so I trust Tom AGAIN!
Hopefully the melonite coating will hold up to a lot of shooting.
I do believe that the barrel material was covered in the origonal thread, am sure someone will chime in.

I am excited the price is what I believe is fair (or better) considering what we are getting. I'm in (my order is in)

LW19 steel, which is a chrome-moly vanadium type steel.

Forgive me if you didn't want this posted 87. But I figure it might answer questions before they are asked.

Thanks, I forgot to update that page. I swapped the video over to my new Youtube account, VuurwapenBlog. I updated the blog link, but here is the review:

A guy at a recent class I took had his S&W 5.45 start keyholing at approximately 15k probally shot hard and fast so I say he got his money's worth. He did mention that he never cleaned it and only flushed it with water to get rid of the corrosive salts.

I understand that the melonite is going to be better for corrosion but when compared to chromed barrel what can we expect in terms of barrel life. I was under the impression for barrel wear that chrome was the way to go.

This Spike's upper is very tempting.

i read a post on m4carbine.net where two different guys have right around 12k on there m&p15r's and the rounds started keyholing. the replacment barrels run $180 from s&w. the smith barrels are 4140 chrome lined. i'm wondering the same question. who long will these barrels last? have they been put through the paces to see or are we the testers? i know superior barrels applies their "hard blue" process which i've read is a type of nitrocarburizing as is melonite, superior claims 20k rounds of accuracy.

the melonite will help with higher round counts AND.......Spikes barrels will be allot cheaper than trying to get a barrel from S&W AND......lets say you shot it out at 12k, if you had used .223 WOLF, you would have saved $1200 in ammo, and if you were using brass, you would have saved $2400....pays for allot of barrels!

I have two of the S&W uppers. One that I shoot, and a new one that was just a spare. I have a LOT of 5.45 ammo so I don't mind having spare uppers for this stuff, but I'll sell the new one if you're interested.

Just a heads up. If you pre order online, make sure you don't put other items with the upper. The order will get kicked into our back order file and we cannot tie up in stock items for that long, so we would appreciate it if all other items were placed on a separate order. If you inadvertently place an order with additional items just give us a call so we can separate the items and ship what we have in stock now.
