I've been running an X400V for a little under a month, and I think it's getting returned. I've used it on a few ops at work... surveillance, search warrants, etc., and have been running it at the range and in scenarios. At the risk of sounding like a douche, I can't really say it has a place in my tactical repertoire, so to speak.
When the NODs are on, I almost always find myself either with full kit and a rifle, or in ninja mode with an IR light and a holstered gun. Every time I've drawn my pistol, necessity or common sense has dictated that the NODs got flipped up first, or I engaged with my dominant, non-NVD eye. When I've focused on training for pistol employment, the night sights and muzzle flash have always made me think that it would always be better to just go to white light whenever the situation allows. I'm pretty sure one rapid string I shot made my NODs turn off at one point. I run a 14 on my non dominant eye, so drawing and going to white light takes nothing away time wise.
My experience had always been only running long guns with IR, but it's pretty irritating I couldn't think this through before purchasing. Even more irritating is the fact that I jumped the gun and sold my X300U, and sold or modified my holsters to use the X400. I suppose it being a new product and all kind of got me excited.
Anyone else have any other input? Am I crazy? I really wanted to like this light.
So, as I browse for a new X300, and a new 6378, and a new off duty rig...
if any team member can use a XFer IWB holster, remolded to fit a X400, shoot me an IM. Pick up the postage and it's yours. Gone.
Ugh... I was so excited to get it too.
**I did not buy the light from TNVC... I just like it better in here.
