well I fondled mine for you and technically there is probably room for one. It probably wouldn't be that easy of a task. I took a close look at some ak mags of mine. Non Yugo mags are pretty set in their ways as far as: there is no room for extra tabs to push up on anything if that makes sense. It would probably be a challenge to say the best and not worth it.
Furthermore and unfortunately: I mag locked the first mag I ever put in it, and I found it somewhat easy to do so as my muscle memory from my ak led me to do it (don't tell anyone). CMMG has decided they would rather actually print in the manual (long story short) "............Failure to engage hook properly will result in Mag Lock. This will make magazine very difficult to remove." rather then actually take an extra month (or whatever) to make the rifle mag lock proof as my ak pattern rifle is (I checked and really tried). Think about that for a moment along with the price tag. It is easier to print then to do I guess.. Also please go grab your ak and look, and physically see how easy of a fix this could be. Basically what i'm saying is I hold out little hope that any "bonus" or extra goodie features are being prioritized for this model or possible gen 2 models. Maybe it's "range toy" worthy only (which makes me sad).
You simply cannot take the pros of one rifle and make them worse on a rifle with SUCH potential. Oh and there is more trust me.
I'm just having trouble finding the time for range time and a mini review.
Long story short I would put it out of your mind unless you want to poke a hole in the side of the lower receiver yourself. The mutant appears to eat all mags so far and we don't have to worry about buying some goofy inbred ar style mag w/ a straight section. There not "common" or cheap. By incorporating a bolt hold device to work with existing mags (millions of them) could be an additional area of having possible failures. It would be cool but I personally don't miss it. I like the direction they have taken in that department, and I do love the rifle as the pros overcome the cons.
