since we are on the topic, i have a buddy that I shoot with... well a friend of his bought a used cmmg m4gery upper half, it was an A4 14.7 .gov profile with perm'd A2 hider... and was convinced (or had been told by the seller) he had gotten a genuine military colt M4 upper, he even showed me the barrel roll mark...
Him: "see... it says here CMMG... that stands for "Colt Military Manufacturing Group" it is the co-op between Colt and FN who both make m16 and M4s for the military" me:
There was nothing i could do to convince him... i even showed him the extra material and bluing on the pin weld for the FH and he told me it was "battle damage" EXTRA METAL IS BATTLE DAMAGE!?!?! i gave up... |

OK, before there was this AR15.com, there was another AR15.com. Much, much older and not sure how many of you were around then... many of us had different login names back then, I can't even recall what my name was, I think Dutchman.
However, there were these two young guys named Jeff and John and their official login name was CougerMaverickMerlinGoose ... while they may have sought for a more "fitting" meaning to CMMG for their Certificate of Incorporation, the old meaning remains. Ask them how you break your arm playing video games... And I have to snicker at some of these folks who don't know the names of the pilots in Top Gun, guess if you didn't grow up with those movies... Iceman, Slider, Hollywood... Do the lines - "Yippe-ca-yeah, MF" and "Welcome to the party, Pal!" hold meaning to you Enough with the thread-jack |

Marty, that is "naval aviator".
I'll tell you what, it is a good advertising ploy having people bump your ads with movie quotes all of the time and having a user name so long that you can tell by looking at the column width if you are still on the front page. That was sure a long time ago. Awhile back, someone posted an old saved ar15.com EE page and the old name was on there. Brought a smile to my face. First started dealing in new and used parts while using a WebTV. Woof. Jeff |
