Magpul is proud to announce that our Armorer's Tool Series is now shipping to dealers and distributors.
Armorer’s Wrench: American-Made, solid steel construction with grip-enhancing phosphate finish engages both Mil-Spec and pin-style barrel nuts. Fits standard sized flash hiders. Installs and removes rifle receiver extensions and carbine castle nuts, with extended teeth for use with ASAP plates. Two hammer faces. Works with 1/2” torque wrench, relevant torque specifications included on Wrench for quick reference. Convenient Bottle Opener for refreshments after the build is complete (fits both Metric and SAE bottle caps.) The Armorer's Wrench is a unqiue product in that we designed it for internal use and was such a good tool we transitioned it to the commercial market, as noted below: http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG535/misc The Magpul Armorer’s Wrench: Requirement Driven, Purpose Built
The Magpul Armorer’s Wrench is an exceptional product in a number of ways; its design, construction, and intent are a level above what has traditionally been available in a dedicated AR15 assembly and maintenance tool. However, one of the most unique things about the Armorer’s Wrench is the product development process that brought it to market. The Armorer’s Wrench was actually a product requested for Magpul’s internal use and then developed into a commercial product. At Magpul, our diverse and ever-expanding product line necessitates a tremendous amount of testing. Some of these tests include tolerance of environmental conditions, chemical and UV resistance, and controlled scientific strength testing among many others. As to be expected, one extremely crucial part of our product validation prior to bringing a new item to market is high-volume live fire testing. We are fortunate to have a wide selection of high-quality firearms and access to great industry partners and suppliers to maintain these firing schedules, and the world-class armorers at Magpul stay very busy repairing, refitting, reconfiguring, and maintaining our armory. The Armorer’s Wrench was purpose designed and built to provide our armory with a tool that would stand up to the volume of use that other tools could not sustain, as well as providing optimized functionality for the tasks it had to perform. The cost and lost time of breaking tools at an unacceptable rate led to our armorers asking the company to apply our proven design and manufacturing expertise to solving their problem, and the Magpul Armorer’s Wrench is the result. While the cost was slightly higher than some other armorer’s tools, the function and durability more than offset the cost difference. Once the wrench proved its worth in our shop, the Armorer’s Wrench transitioned to a production item with a singular goal made possible by its many functions: to provide the professional, institutional, or recreational armorer the finest commercially available AR15-pattern tool ever produced. View Quote BEV Block: The BEV Block (Barrel Extension Vise) is an all-in-one, compact vise block tool for AR assembly operations of barrel nuts, flash hiders, etc. Mounts securely in a vise and provides support for both billet and forged upper and lower receivers. Engages barrel extension with solid steel lugs and full length support shank to prevent flexing. Steel hardness is optimized for durability yet won’t damage barrel extension, and Magpul Polymer for all other engagement surfaces to protect aluminum receiver. Yeah the wrench is incredibly overpriced. View Quote Dont buy it. I think it is priced nicely for all the features. I have the DPMS one and do not think too highly of it. It does not grip regular barrel nuts very well. The castle nut part on the the cheap ones really suck, one little bump to try to grip the nut with. It only has 2 prongs to grip most other free float nuts with. The flash hider slot is too wide, it does not fit. The finish on mine started flaking off after a couple uses. If you only needed to build one rifle $80 might be high but if you use it a lot I think it will be worth it. I have built a lot of rifles over the past few years it is worth it to me. I guess it is the same argument of why get a nice automatic watch when a $30 Timex can keep more accurate time. They already shut up and took my money. Now if I can just find a place with the BEV block in stock already. |

Is there a video (not the time lapse sequence above) or photos of the BEV in use. I am interested to see how the "o-ring post uses the bolt carrier for extra stability". I presume the carrier is installed minus the bolt and the o-ring post fits snugly in place. Is the charging handle used and do the bolt carrier / CH lock into place with a "snap" like when installing a complete BCG? Am I correct it is designed to be used without a bolt carrier as well?
EDIT: this video answered my own questions at 1:28. BEV Use |

I ordered both directly from Magpul yesterday as soon as I found out they had been released. I guess it's a good thing too, since now the BEV block is apparently out of stock.

Serious question here: how would the BEV offer advantages over something like the Geissele reaction rod? I have the RR and found out the hard way that it works well for installing/removing muzzle devices but is not designed to replace the clam shell for barrel nut removal/installation.
I'm all for a tool that can replace the clam shells, offer more versatility, and work with all uppers forged and billet. |

The Reaction Rod is indeed a fantastic tool, that we have used and continue to use here on a daily basis with outstanding results.
The BEV Block does incorporate a similar function (locking into the barrel extension) for the capability to wrench on the upper receiver without removing accessories from the upper or damaging the upper/barrel. The differences are in it's size and cost, which lend themselves to being put in a tool kit or range bag with minimal footprint, as well as the capability to lock a lower receiver onto the BEV Block for lower work. The BEV Block was designed to be a cost-effective, professional-grade solution for working on the upper and lower of an AR15 in one efficient package. The Reaction Rod is purpose built for upper work, which it excels at. |

Highly doubtful if the SR15 uses an E3 bolt and barrel extension. My Geissele Reaction Rod would not fit my E3 so I bought the KAC muzzle device tool. If your SR15 uses the older M4 type bolt and barrel extension, it should be fine. |

If you offer a craftsman like warranty on the wrench I'm sold.
I purchased a Wheeler and it's honestly crap. It marrs up castle nuts real good. The cheap $10 tapco wrench did a better job than the Wheeler I overpaid for. Also the flash hider slot is cut too small. The barrel nut part worked okay... I like that you have a cut out for a wrench attachment. A Breaker bar makes removing barrel nuts/staked castle nuts so much easier. |

I saw an announcement on Facebook the morning they were released and immediately went to Magpul's site and ordered them both. IIRC I checked the site again that evening and the BEV block could no longer be added to your cart so I took that to mean they had been sold out. My guess is that everyone else is also sold out or still waiting for their shipments to arrive. FWIW I'm still awaiting a shipping notification. Their site specifies that orders should ship in 3-5 business days and today is number 4 (5 if you count the day I placed the order). |

So here's a quick update for anyone interested. I placed my order for the armorer's wrench and BEV block directly from Magpul on 28 October. It's been 10 days now with no update so I called Magpul and asked for an update on the status of my order. The lady I spoke with was very polite and asked for my order number. I gave it to her and she then informed me that these are brand new products and not ready for shipment yet. This was an unpleasant surprise, but she went on to say that it would be another week or two before they ship out. So now I know why no other distributors have posted them for sale yet. It's not like I need them right now this minute, but I do wish that when Magpul released them for sale that they had specified they were being released for pre-order only and that they wouldn't be shipping out just yet.

I see that there are incorrect torque specs still listed for the castle nut and flash suppressor.
FYI: Flash suppressor torque is 15-20 Ft-Lbs and castle nut torque is 38-42 Ft-Lbs. I'm willing to say that they got it close enough for the castle nut but to tight for the flash suppressor. Not that you have to follow what the wrench says... Some people will though. |

View Quote Per the Colt Armory Manual the torque spec shown on our wrench for the castle nut is correct (average). The specs for the barrel nut also come from the same manual. However, installation guidelines for the compensator/flash hider vary widely depending on what you are referencing whether that be the Colt Armory Manual, ARMY TM 9-1005-319-23, or the various suppressor manufacturers. The torque value listed on our Armorer’s Wrench is on the upper end of the recommend values for most suppressor mounts, which is what we are typically installing here at Magpul. As always, it's best to follow the manufacturer's install instructions for the specific muzzle device you are using. |
