Pre-ordered some. Bakelite orange pistol grip and steel reinforced mags would be awesome.

I really really hope these work in my MGI 7.62x39 lower. I pre-ordered two from Brownell's.

Okay who got them and did you test them yet? Hopefully this will drive K-vars price back to where they should be. Maybe!

There are two different crowds with the AK... The 'authentic' crowd, and the 'I have a cheap and/or practical rifle crowd'. The collector crowd will never buy into the Magpul AK mags, reinforcements or not, because they are not military issue. It's not a slight, it's just not why they buy AKs. These are the guys posting the 'get that stuff off of my AK' shots of Kalashnikov. KVAR will always have a market with this crowd.
Everyone else, people that care about parts count/compliance, people with 'practical' AKs who like to shoot their rifles, importers and builders...want and need this mag. If KVAR was smart, they'll sell PMAGs too. |

That means STEEL reinforced.(there is just NO way around this). |

..and there is a fourth crowd, too, that have assumed they must be inferior, because the commies couldn't make a decent mag without metal in it, they think no one else can, either.

What's the ETA on the metal reinforced mag? Have zero interest in the current one.

I'd probably don some MOE furniture on my SAM 7 Carbine in OD it has OD stocks now. Now these AK mags are out? I guess all those military surplus mags and those Bulgy Circle tens are worthless now. :( lol... I remember reading here that magpul was not even considering making stuff for the AK at one time. Glad to see its not so! Yes I like my simple AK more than my AR. I wouldn't mind feeding soem more mags to my AK74 however but those got too pricey I didn't buy them while the gettin was good.

Do I have a problem? I am contemplating buying an AK just because Magpul is making mags now View Quote thats funny, I considered buy an AR when I found out that Ivan Kolev and the Bulgarians were making steel lined polymer waffle mags for the AR But Magpul does have me eyeing a 308 |

Just received my AK PMAGs. These mags are awesome, the fit and finish is stellar. Thanks Magpul for another great product.

I'll wait for the reinforced version. Those will be sweet and worth every penny of the higher price

Why I won't buy a non-metal reinforced AK mag regardless of manufacture.

People said that about plastic pistols, too, right before they took over the world.
|
|
|
The point being, why don't you judge them on their merits, rather than the perception that they won't work, or the reputation of other crappy magazines?
If you can't (or won't) swing the $13 to buy one, just relax and see what the consensus after they've been out awhile. They might rock. Metal, in itself, is not an answer. |

I got one of the current plastic PMAGs to try it out. I found a few things that I didn't expect/think about. #1 any slight wobble isn't noticeable because it's plastic, so it doesn't make any noise. #2 the plastic has a slight lubricity to it, so inserting and removing the mag is a little smoother than my steel Albanian surplus mags.
Between the cheap price (DSG has them for $10 right now) and how nice and smooth, quiet, tight, etc they are... I like these. I ordered a few. I'm going to take my Albanian steel surplus mags and put them back in reserve as my SHTF/forever mags. The Pmags are going to be what I take to the range from now on. I'll try the steel insert mags when they come out, but I'm not paying $30 for them, or listening to them rattle around in the magwell. I actually think the all plastic ones will be the way to go. (note that I'm not getting rid of my surplus steel mags though). -J |

I realize this is totally pie-in-the-sky thinking on my part, but if the steel reinforced mags also had a bolt hold open feature and were windowed, they'd be the best thing since sliced bread.
Also, any plans for a Ranger Plate (it was my understanding the current ranger plates on offer don't fit)? |
|
Fuck, dudes. Some of y'all would nitpick a blowjob... It's lightweight, freaking cheap and easy to hold on to. What's not to love?
I've got a passel of steel and Circle-10s. They now stay in my reserve stash. I'm now buying these exclusively instead of the US Palm mags. They're MUCH thinner, probably just as strong even without the metal 'reinforcement' of the PALM mags and I can purchase them at a ratio of 2.5:1 by comparison. I ran some of these at a Low Light Vehicle CQB class with Sentinel Concepts a couple of months ago. After two days of scrabbling around on the hard pack coliche and gravel as well as banging into the deck and car bodies/doors the only thing I managed to break was a TACO pouch. I also ran these and PALMs at the William Wallace Freedom Shoot a couple of weeks ago. My stuff was slammed onto a CONEX roof, concrete floors, braced against steel tower frameworks and smacked more than a few times while doing a farmer's carry with some heavy-ass kettlebells. Good Shit! To make a long rant short, these are more than adequate for my needs... then again my needs do not begin and end with making fluff videos of destroying stuff on the boobtube so that I can talk about how much it sucks. I can also afford PLENTY so replacing magazines that get worn out or broken (which is what will happen to ANY mag that gets used...) is not an issue. When/If the steel-reinforced ones come out I'll buy those too. I'll probably continue using the AK MOE mags for my general shooting and training. If you don't want yours then kindly PM me. I'll provide you with a shipping address and take them off your hands. Hell, if you have enough I'll even cover the postage. Ek |
|
Nice post EK, good "use" pics too. I haven't bought any yet because steel-lined mags are coming out but I've got Palms that work well..... I think the re-do and any innovation is always a "good thing" and I really hope they come out sooner than later.
