I contacted Magpul about this a while ago. They said they were going to send me 3 working replacements for the 3 Pmags I bought with issues. They sent me 2 replacements that have the same issue as the three I own and I didn’t get a third. I've tried all 5 of the Pmags I have right now on the three AR's I own and the all 5 have the same issue. So at this point I’ve given up on 20 round Pmags as a reliable magazine. Do the 20 rounders still feed the ammo reliably? Yes, if you can get the bolt to go forward with a loaded Pmag. Then after the last round the bolt doesn't lock to the rear. We are still investigating this and will be working on a solution. More info when we get it. |

Well not for a lack of trying but I can't get a Magpul 20 rounder to work in any of my AR's
Any update on a v2.0 Magpul 20 round mag? |

In my 20's, the bolt hold has never been an issue for me. Just rack the charge handle until Magpul fixed the "problem".

My first three 20rd PMAGs didn't lock the bolt to the rear on the last round; this was in my BCM, but it worked for my friend's LMT. Now I got 5 more 20rd PMAGs, and they all work in my BCM, Spikes, Noveske, and my buddy's LMT. I guess its a hit or miss for me but I like the 20rd PMAGs.

Some of the cheaper Lower parts kits, like DPMS, came with short bolt catches. compared with COLT ....they are too short to engage.
they will just barely catch on a USGI mag

TAG~
I have one 20 round that most of the time i use as my primary duty mag for the rifle when carrying. (everything else is the 30). I have never noticed any issues with it but then again. It stays loaded with duty ammo so I've never run it dry. I'll have to test that. Im guessing it's 1-2 years old. FWIW- All my mags are MP. Never run anything else. |

But the AR15/M4/M16 platform is designed to hold the bolt back to the rear after the last round is expended. I’ve spent over 16 years training with this platform. I’m not going to introduce a fix for an issue that changes the way the platform is supposed to operate normally. 2) Plus the produce should work – period. I’m not going to let fan boyism overlook the fact that I have (5) 20 round Magpul mags that don’t work the way they are supposed to in the (3) AR’s I own and the others I’ve tested them in. I have a BCM & DD AR, which the users of this site claim are god’s gift to AR’s and “top tier”, “good to go”, “.mil” and every other dumb word that they use for a quality AR. These AR’s were bought assembled for the respective manufacturers so I hope a lower quality lower parts kit wasn’t used to put them together. I would say it was the bolt catches but every other mag I’ve tried in my AR’s works perfect to include 30 round Magpul mags. I’m in no way trying to be anti Magpul I like their stuff and own a lot of it. I like 20 mags for certain types of shooting and I like Magpul stuff. I want to be able to use 20 round Magpul mags. |

Same here. I have 3 x 20 rounders that intermittently fail to catch the bolt when empty.
It's not a big deal since I only use the 20 round mags on the bench with the bipod, but if there's a fix, I'd like to get it. I have a bunch of 30 round mags and this never happens with those. |

I'm sure there are some limited uses for a straight 20 round mag but wouldn't it just be easier for Magpul to shorten a curved 30 round mag to 20 rounds?

My 20 rounder won't even make it to the last round to hold the bolt open.
After firing the first 18 rounds, the spring/follower isn't pushing the last 2 rounds up high enough for the bolt to strip them from the mag. Bolt rides right over top of them. |

My DD M4 would not lock open on empty on the 20 round mags until I put an H3 buffer in it. This is a factory rifle. Ran fine on the RevM 30 rounders. H3 buffer.. all is good. We'll see when I suppress it...

Dang, i just bought ten of these.
I don't know if my mags have the problem yet. They fed fine...but i was using a gun with no bolt catch installed.....go figure. |

I have trouble too.
Side question.....are the feed lip covers for the 20 rounders specific to the 20 round mags? I know if I just grab a cover out of the drawer, half of them won't attach to the 20 round mags. In the drawer, I have snap covers mixed from 30 round and 20 round mags. |

Just tried out my 20 round Pmag. I loaded it with 20 rounds at first and it ran fine, locked back. I then ran another box of 20, only loading 2 rounds at a time, and it again locked back every time. This is in a DPMS Lite 16.

I have 2 of these 20 round mags and have the same issues. Its really no issue as i only use them on the bench, while shooting 3 at a time for load development-. But id never use them for anything else- due to them being unreliable when fully loaded.

Hmmm I just bought 5 from Brownell's. I haven't had a chance to try them out yet.
