^ Love that FDE dissy! Thanks, it's a great shooter and I really like it. I don't have as many rounds through it as I'd like but I have to leave something to look forward to I suppose. That's a nice rifle you've got there too. The DD Omega rail is a nice touch. |

My $739 Del-Ton Sierra 316H (RFTMH16-0 )
When I walked out of the LGS where I bought it, I thought I won the lotto, I was SHOCKED in this day of gun crazy pricing, that I could find a quality rifle for this price! Specs |
|
Referring to gunner_jj's post on page 7 from 9/20/12 -- Link to Post -- This is the perfect, inexpensive, reliable, lightweight, keep-it-simple, self-defense/multi-purpose setup. This is EXACTLY the rifle I am looking to build (once they are in stock!). Well done, sir!

She's finally done.
Del Ton Sport. I added a Magpul BUS, a Magpul hand guard and AFG2, a 1/2 inch riser and a cheap WM red dot that I already owned. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h192/paulnmissy/image_zps4ca530ac.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h192/paulnmissy/image_zps8dcc65ae.jpg Here's some additional pics. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h192/paulnmissy/image_zps779fe7f6.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h192/paulnmissy/image_zpsbf6a42cb.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h192/paulnmissy/image_zpsccb8fef2.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h192/paulnmissy/image_zps92370391.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h192/paulnmissy/image_zpsc8d56f00.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h192/paulnmissy/image_zps89a6562c.jpg |

How does she shoot? I finally had a chance today to get out to the range and do some shooting. I put a 200 mega pack of Remington UMC .223 55 grain and 30 PMC .223 55 grain through my Del Ton Sport. Every round fired without any issues. I was a little nervous shooting the Remington UMC as it gets some pretty bad reviews, but you couldn't be choosy on your ammo when I purchased it. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h192/paulnmissy/image_zpsdfbcb386.jpg |

I bought a Sport myself a few months ago, so I'm glad to hear the positive feedback from a fellow owner. Haven't had the ammo to shoot mine until recently. I'll take it out this Memorial Day weekend to put a few rounds through it. |

It seems like a very solid rifle. There is no play between the upper and the lower, the bolt is marked HPT/MPI, the gas key and castle nut are staked. It doesn't have M4 Feed ramps but I had zero issues with feeding out of 230 rounds of cheap .223 ammo. I think it's true that the M4 feed ramps are hyped up and not really needed for our semi auto rifles. The only thing I wish Del Ton would have done on this rifle was to go with at mil spec buffer tube but that could easily be changed down the line. I threw a Magpul rear back up sight on it and a cheap Walmart red dot which I was able to co-witness. Out of the box it was shooting pretty accurate. I had to adjust the rear back up sight to the right just a tad and it was shooting just a tad high. My groups were fairly small for shooting standing up unsupported. The indoor range went out to 60 feet.
I was thinking of doing a write up on the sport with some pictures. I only hear good things about Del Ton from other owners so I'm not sure why everyone is so quick to write them off. For the price point of this AR I'm not sure why more people don't consider it for a starter rifle. I really think the sport will be a good first AR. |

I won't pooh-pooh the high end rifles, but I won't put down the starters like the Del Ton Sport either. From what I've researched online, most shooters have had the same impression as you. Well made, solid, accurate, hardly any problems at all. Perfect for Average Joes like myself who aren't potting Taliban in the Hindu Kush. For about a $1000, a man can get a Sport, ammo, a few mags, a rear sight and some accessories and be able to protect his family from most situations. Riot, looters in the aftermath of disaster, armed muslim bomber on the loose (Boston), etc...Frankly, this was my line of thinking when I purchased mine. I look foward to your write up...and pics. |

Definitley not going to knock the high end brands. This is my first AR and I wasn't ready to jump into a build without any knowledge of the platform. I read reviews on several starter AR brands and for the price the Del Ton really stood out to me. My next one I will build from higher end parts but I'll do it over time so the cost doesn't sting so bad. With the Del Ton I was able to jump in and get started on my adventure right away.
