Died in a helicopter crash Sept. 28, 2011 in the Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was the nicest person to ever rain hell from the sky. It makes me proud to have worn the same uniform as Ryan.

In Vietnam, as a member of the Special Forces, Green Barets, CO A 5th Seg Airborne 1st SF USAARPAC-RVN. We will miss him dearly. Always happy and fun to be around. We will love him and remember him forever. Here with my mom and daugther the Wednesday before his passing.

          Cpl. Taylor J. Baune, 21, of Andover, Minn., died June 13
while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.  He
was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine
Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Sgt Durbin, Wesley   Joined the Army after the Marines, and was shot by one of his own,  14 Sep, 2008. POS got life in prison for killing Durbin, and his squad leader.
Ssgt Wojciechowski, Mark  Killed by an IED while trying to disarm it, 30 Apr, 2009  Wojo was one of the best.

Afghanistan.  He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st
Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms,
Calif.

Please allow me to take a moment to remember my friend and roommate, 1st Lieutenant Steve Shields and his co-pilot Capt. Ed Northrup were brutally killed in action in Vietnam.

While conducting aerial cover operations for a large airborne combat assault into a known NVA stronghold a F/9 Cav. Cobra was struck by a SA-7 “Strella” surface- to-air missile and destroyed when the rocket streaked horizontal to the ground and struck the low-level Cav. Cobra from behind and causing it to explode.  The two pilots, 1LT Lou Breuer and CW2 Burdette Townsend aboard the craft were both killed upon impact.  We’d been told previously that the Strella couldn't do what we just saw it do.

Seeing all this happen on the near perimeter of the LZ just prior to touchdown of the loaded lift ships Steve Shields in his Blue Max Cobra was in position and immediately attacked the area where the missile came from.  This caused him to come under withering fire from many enemy heavy large-caliber anti-aircraft guns.  It seems that the night before the big operation some idiot aboard a reconnaissance aircraft had broadcast the location of the following morning’s impending airborne assault in the clear rather than in code.  This had given the NVA ample time to prepare an ambush in advance of arrival of the friendly reinforcements.

The Blue Max Cobra being flown by my friend Steve Shields was fatally crippled by the heavy fire and crashed just beyond the LZ.  Unfortunately, Steve was also struck in the chest by a large caliber round causing grave injuries.  His co-pilot Ed Northrup survived the crash and ran to the aid of his wounded aircraft commander and dragged him out of the broken ship to a nearby bomb crater. Almost immediately they came under fire from a large group of NVA soldiers and were both executed on the spot.  When the bodies of my friends were recovered several days later they were horribly mutilated by the enemy’s attack.

The extremely heavy enemy fire caused the airborne assault to be broken off and it also made it impossible for anyone to come to the aid of downed pilots.  Several other aircraft were severely damaged in the ambush and barely made it back to our nearby staging point.  Over the years I’ve never forgot that awful day in June 1972 and have never been able to shake the guilt I feel for not being able to do something to help save those guys.

Here’s a picture of Steve.  He was one awesome guy.  The world would have been a much better place if he’d been allowed to live.

Sailor killed in CH-53 crash remembered

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii — A Pearl Harbor sailor who was killed in a Marine helicopter crash in Iraq last week became a medic because he wanted to help people, his father told mourners at a memorial service on Thursday.

Larry House, of Simi Valley, Calif., said he recently met a Marine at another service who told him that his son had taken care of him and stayed with him after he was wounded during action in Fallujah.

“Doc House took care of me,” the Marine told him.

Hospital Corpsman John Daniel House, 28, and 30 Marines were killed Jan. 26 when their helicopter crashed in a sandstorm in western Iraq. House and 26 of the Marines were based in Hawaii.

House was attached to Company C, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, which is based at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay. He deployed to Iraq in August and was scheduled to return to Hawaii in a few weeks.

Elizabeth House told the 500 people crowded into the Pearl Harbor Memorial Chapel, many of them Navy personnel in uniform, that her brother had a strong love for his family.

“He was my guardian angel. I couldn’t ask for a better big brother,” she said, referring to him as Johnny. “My parents made me, the Navy made me a man, and Melanie made me whole,” she quoted her brother saying.

House’s wife, Melanie, in a statement read to reporters before the service by her father-in-law, said her husband was committed to the Navy.

“John also was a wonderful husband and I know he loved our son,” she said. “Although the two never had a chance to meet, I know John will be with him every day of his life.”

Melanie House gave birth on Christmas Eve. House’s brother, James, carried the infant into the service, and his mother held him during part of the service before he was taken out of the chapel.

Attending the service, in addition to House’s family, were ranking Navy and Marine Corps officials. Also attending was the wife of Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph B. Spence, of Scotts Valley, Calif., one of the Hawaii-based Marines killed in the crash.

A Marine chaplain earlier said that Melanie House and the young widows of three of the Marines have spent time together since the crash, including prayer meetings.

Despite the image House may have projected with his many tattoos and shaved head, he was a caring and dedicated corpsman, said Capt. Charlie Barker, commander of the Naval Health Clinic Hawaii, to which House was assigned.

“He exemplified honor, courage and duty,” Barker said.

Barker and House’s father and sister also remembered him as someone who loved his guitar and country music. His sister noted that her baby nephew is named James Cash House in tribute to country singer Johnny Cash, a favorite of her brother.

A maile lei-draped Navy portrait of House placed on a table at the front of the chapel was surrounded by his sailor cap, field cap and spit-shined shoes, and was flanked by tall candles. Nearby was a wreath of red, white and blue flowers from the Navy clinic.

The service included the signing of the Navy Hymn, a traditional tolling of a ship bell, and the playing of ‘Taps’. Photos of House’s life were shown on a large television screen at the front of the chapel.

House will be buried at a later date in Simi Valley, family members said.

I came into this forum to post a small tribute for Wayne & found yours. Wayne & I were very close friends for many years. We met in 1995 & worked together for 8 years, my wife & I hung out with him & his wife until they moved to Missouri. His funeral was the hardest thing I've been to, I think i cried for him for a month straight. I loved him like a brother & miss him everyday.

RIP Christopher Jehlicka. Passed away 9/26/14. He wasone of my Soldiers from 2008-2009. Died from the wounds that we can't see.

I lost two of my close uncles from illnesses...Both served in the Marine Corps both went to Vietnam with my father. 03-11 Infantry. My first uncle is Willie Fred Wilkes born in 1946 in Vienna, Georgia and died in 2012 of Stage IV-B Lung Cancer that killed him on the spot few days after he was diagnosis with this horrible disease. I never knew him very much he kept to himself most of the time from what I understood from my father his brother was a true Marine he loved being a solider.





My other uncle is Richard ''Mac'' McDonald born in 1948 in Los Angeles, California and died in 2012 of COPD after smoking for many years he lost his battle officially on December 12th 2012. He served as my father's Sgt Major in the Brig when they both worked together my uncle Mac was a die hard Marine he eat/sleep wake up a United States Marine.  He was fun to hang around he made sure people had a smile on their face.

Four friends, two of them very close to me, were killed by an IED in a humvee in Maydan Shar, Wardack Province, Afghanistan, July 20, 2009

We were part of the artillery section known as Shamhouse.  We were the rowdiest section in the battery, if not the battallion.

He had my back since day 1.  I grew up rather sheltered, and was quite socially akward.  I grew up on a farm in a strict baptist home (my dad was a deacon), was homeschooled until highschool, when I went to the baptist school, and my only social contact was church functions.  I was 22 by the time I got to drum, and was still a virgin; I had never even had a beer.  He stuck his neck out for me so many goddamn times my first three months there, getting me out of a lot of trouble with my chief.  My first few times drinking, I did so with him in his barracks room.  After a month he took me out to my first bar, and a couple weeks before we deployed, he hooked me up my first time.

Sgt. Gregory "Face" Owens

He taught me a lot.  He instructed me in marksmanship training, and I accredit him with my accuracy and confidence now.  He taught me how to assemble the breach for the m119a2, the bolt for the m2, and the mk19.  He worked with me a lot while the rest of the section was in someone else's room playing video games waiting on cob.  He made sure my self esteem stayed high during the period while I was still quite socially akward.

When we deployed, I went to one cop, while they went to another.
I remember the day it happened.  Ordinarily during nipper blackout, they would tell us not to use our cells, but they wouldn't collect them.  This time smoke came through and asked for all our cells.  The look on his face told me something was wrong.  By the time he was done, the alarm was sounding to get to the bunkers for a mortar attack.  While we were sitting on the ground in the bunker, he asked us if we wanted to know.  We nodded our heads, and he told us.

Sad to see almost 10 years and this post is still adding names!

Our way of keeping our sanity and that impending question we all ask ourselves everyday! A simple question! One that only maybe 2% of the people alive here in the USA can answer or understand!

I want to put this out there for any of you guys who need someone to talk to I'm here I'll give my number to you if you need it! My battle buddy I worked with lost a fellow Ranger who pretty much took his life by pointing a unloaded weapon at police. There are place to help you out if you feel that way and I want to offer an ear or email to anyone out there that feels they are alone and want to harm themselves! Don't need to lose any more patriot's blood! We where here for each other over there and we are here for each other back at home! Please guys/gals talk to someone! It's not weak!

I knew Art. I am proud to have been in his first Fire Team when he was a Spc4 P. Proud to have been in a brotherhood of such badasses. I wasn't a badass but I served with a bunch of them.
