Most of 2005 thru early 2006,

I actually never knew they were "numbers" for OIF deployments until I read thru this thread. I guess this would be 2 or 3?

View Quote

05-06 would have been OIF 3.

The numbering system was very loosely built on the year long tours and focused on MND-B with the initial invasion being 1, 1CD/3Corps being 2, 3ID/XVIII Corps being 3, etc.  It likely went away as soon as we started pushing all sorts of random divisions and BCTs in and out at different times, thus breaking up what folks thought would be a nice easy "war".  I don't know as I only did the Iraq thing for a year, hung out in Afghanistan for a couple of tax free vacations though.

FOB Ramrod is best Ramrod.

We got there right as 5/2, specifically the Kill Squad guys, were getting ready to leave. They were over on a corner of the FOB for a couple weeks during our RIP/TOA.

We were JVB so we were all over the place but mostly either Victory or the IZ.  Got to fly to a couple cool places like Ramadi, FOB McHenry/Summerall, Mosul, and a couple other places.  Saw some neat places including RPC/SF compound, the CIA compound by BIAP, stayed in the Embassy although not by design.  Did some cool stuff like run a couple American convoys off Rte. Irish, ran a Blackwater convoy off the road, almost got shot by a Bradley who was part of an EOD route clearance team on Rte. Irish, got shot at multiple times in a helicopter, got cockblocked by the fucking Alaskan National Guard Blackhawk pilots, told a full-bird Col. to shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down, etc...you know, the usual.

I was Army doing Route Clearance on HWY 1 going west towards Leatherneck. For most of the time the only units on Ramrod were us and a company from 2CR. We received another Route Clearance PLT/Company? that cleared east down HWY 1 sometime in 2011.

I remember you guys. Didn't the Marines set up a Mayors cell or something like that? Do you remember a small land mine being found on the Afghan side of Ramrod and being blown up on the range? That was me.

I think we had a few guys who did that. I was on the QRF and patrols.

I loved working for the Army lol. We showed up and they said, "here's 5 quadcons full of ammo and anything else you'll need, have fun."

We were like, "ummm, so we don't have to check out each round and all the other bullshit we have to do in the Corps like 5 times a day...."

They said, "nope, it's all yours"

Haha great times

Balad, both times.

Feb04-Feb05, then Oct05-Sep05.

First time we drove up from Camp Virginia sitting on sandbags, second time we flew in because there was no armor available to us. Any armor available went right to the combat arms guys, signal BN's didn't get any of it.

My very first mission was escorting the SecArmy around to a couple different places Thanksgiving 2005.  We went to FOB Summerall and FOB McHenry as some of those places as well as Ramadi and Mosul.  McHenry was operated by the 101st ABN in the middle of the desert......they said that they either got hit by or uncovered over 120+ IED's in one month and that as far as they knew, that was a record for any unit in Iraq up until then (Thanksgiving 2005).  We were like, holy....fucking........christ.
