For starts, I am not a veteran. I was a contractor in both Afghanistan (31 May 2006 to 30 Sep 2008) and Iraq (01 Oct 2008 to 19 Aug 2011) from age 20-25 for 5 yrs 2 mos and 19 days.
The places and timeframes I've been are as follows: Kandahar Air Field (Used for transit through June 2007) PRT Farah/FOB Rescorla (June 2006 to October 2006) Novmber 2006 to February/March 2007 as follows: FOB Lane (SF/Infantry) FOB Baylough (Infantry) FOB Mizan (Infantry) FOB Lagman (FOB used for transit) March 2007 to June 2007: Firebase Cobra (SF/ETT/Artillery) FOB Shindand (SF/ETT) July 2007 to September 2008: Bagram Air Base October 2008 to August 2011: South Victory, Victory Base Complex (Lived about a block or two away from Al Faw Palace) My customer base: 3rd/7th SFG, 1/4 based out of Germany (a training unit). ETT/Artillery were not technically supported under our contract, however we would provide support to them as well. When I worked at the larger bases I moved from construction to HR for the contractor. The people I began working with on a more consistent basis were Officers and civilians with the DCMA. There's not a contractor forum, so, hopefully there's no offense taken in posting here as a civilian. Thank you all for your service. |

1/7 in samara, we had opcon of the ng gun bunnies with you
"Other" in Iraq the second time In Malajat I was 2/170th mp, and the only "non diverse" squad leader. (And the one that set pss 16 on fire with a flare for shooting at our position during eid) My squad was the one that went out of pss2 to help extract your guys that got ambushed at nds in April. The (medical) after effects of that little clusterfuck were a leading caused my getting retired at 18 years I was at pr for awhile too. |

Most of 2005 thru early 2006, Army Infantry
I actually never knew they were "numbers" for OIF deployments until I read thru this thread. I guess this would be 2 or 3? Mahmoudiyah, Yusufiyah spring/summer 2005. Patrolled with Marines from 2-24 mad ghosts and some estonians. Combination of compound raids, mechanized patrols, light squad element night patrols, and multiple day small team snipers OPs. Fall/winter 2005 based out of camp Taji, spent most time on multiple day range patrols in the hinterlands around Sabaa Al Bour. there was a rough compound built on a small house called "the tac" that hosted various infantry platoons and Estonian infantry again. |
