Yeah, from about 2005 until last year, the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) was built around the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 506th Infantry Regiment. As you may know, Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Regiment was made famous for it's WW2 exploits in the book and TV mini-series "Band of Brothers."

506th Parachute Infantry Regiment!

To nitpick a bit, the 506TH has not been a PIR in approximately 40 years.

Actually if you look at the lineage and honors of a lot of current PIRs(use the Panthers as an example), you don't see the parachute designation on it either.

yah j know they're legs.
But when did the 82nd change? As of 2012, the 1BCT letter head said "1st Brigade Combat Team (504th Parachute Infantry Regiment), 82d Airborne Division." We also didn't tell people "I'm in First Brigade." We would tell them "I'm in 504th"
At least everything I had from brigade was labeled as such.

It's on the lineage and honors.  Everyone still calls the units as you are used to.

Samples from some infantry units in the 82nd:

1-504 Parachute Infantry Regiment
1-325 Airborne Infantry Regiment
1-505 Parachute Infantry Regiment

None of them are officially designated Airborne or Parachute.

Similar with artillery(82nd and 4/25):
2-319 Airborne Field Artillery Regiment
2-377 Parachute Field Artillery Regiment

All of them are airborne units and are on jump status with METL tasks involving airborne shit.

and for the record, all of those are woefully out of date.
