Nice.

Congratulations to all who earned this.

I only missed by 17 years.

The proposed medal?

Why does someone need it or even want it?

It's unnecessary.

I didn't realized that it was proposed, I just assumed that it existed.

Idiotic...my monthly check is my retirement medal. What the hell do I need another medal for, I'm retired?

It's something else your grandkids can sell after you're gone.

It should have a broke dick on one side and the words "ADIOS MOTHERFUCKER, I QUIT!" on the reverse.  The ribbon should be silver, red and blue to represent the colors of a Bud Light can.  Arabic numeral devices representing the recipient's VA disability rating should be affixed to the ribbon, for example "60."

As it is.... meh.

How ironic.

It's the medal you'd never wear while on duty.
That's FUNNY.

The design of that ribbon should be green,  as green as grass,  with a crossed golf club device.

They should make an ETS medal. I wore the black beret but never felt very special by having it, maybe and ETS medal would make up for that.

With apologies to the O's, don't hash marks kind of serve the same purpose?

Isn't that why I have a light blue ID card that says retired on it?  Or for grey area NG/Reserve retirees a pinkish purplish one that says Retired Reserve?  Don't those kind of have the same meaning?  More really since at least those will get you into the PX... and the Class 6.

Then your easy life, good health, and retirement check should be enough.

Not to mention his Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon and almost certainly after 20 years, one or more Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal.

We got the "ribbon for showing up" well covered.

That concept is pure Army

As others have said, shadowboxes nowadays have plenty of baubles in them even for those who didn't deploy.

That is what I was thinking. It's not like you have to put your uniform back on to wear it.

Does the back of it say "fuck this shit, I'm going home"? How about devices for police call, pulling weeds, printing rocks, CQ duty?

And the ARCOM, MSM x3, and LoM you get for doing your job as an officer these days.

I know a couple of LTCs and COLs from the cold war days...it's weird to see them with 9ish ribbons/medals total.

It would go in a box in the basement like all the others.  I think a retirement medal is kind of ridiculous.  You already get some fancy certificate.  I did not retire, but someone mailed me one anyway.

I don't like wearing my medals/ribbons right now.  Why would I want another one after I retire?  Just another indication of the "everyone's special" world we live in.
