I went through customs on Bagram in July of '10 as well wag_bag, my experience was nothing like yours. That sucks for you.

They told us we couldnt bring mags home either in 2004. Each PLT was authorized a alst minute check in box under the plane. I collected all my PLT's up and put them in there. No problem. I thought it was funny as hell when they were confiscating finger nail clippers from my guys and we all walked on the plane with our M9 bayonets still on our web gear.
