My sister requested I wear mine to her wedding it was ok, I was still active duty so no big deal. Now my son has requested I wear it to his wedding, last time I wore it was my retirement ceremony 8 years ago. Not sure how I feel about that.
I say if your active wear it, unless you feel it would draw attention away from the newly weds. Yes it still fits but will need some attention to bring it into compliance with the new AFI. |

I dont see why it would be a big problem, I wouldnt feel wierd. Only way it might be odd is if anyone comes up to you thanking you for your service or what not. I would check with your brother first see how he feels, wouldnt want to be stealing his thunder on his day.

If it's a military wedding and the groom is in uniform, then yes. Otherwise I think it's kind of weird and distracting from the couple.

I wore my dress blues to accompany my Mother to church on Mothers Day forty years ago. I'm not much of a church goer, but she said it was the best Mothers Day gift she ever got.

Appropriate, but a bit weird and "look at me-ish" Then again, I didn't even wear my uniform for my own wedding. We have plenty of events we go to, and plenty of photos where I am in my mess uniform - I like dressing "normal" when I get the chance. |

I will be getting in only a day or two before the wedding also... That would make wearing ASUs that much more convenient because I don't have to get fitt for a tux.

If bridezilla doesn't care if you are in a completely different outfit - and a blue one - why would she care that it is a tux? Oh well, it could be worse, my new sister in law tried to get me to get a matching rental tux last summer. It was a miracle I was able to talk her in to letting me wear my own. I think all wedding planning TV shows should be banned. |

If you are in the wedding and the only one in uniform it wouldn't be right. If it were a Military wedding then it goes without saying wear it. But if you were just attending a wedding then it would be fine to wear it then too.
I have worn my Blues outside of Military functions on three or four occasions. Once to a friends wedding, I was groomsman and all the groomsmen were military all under E5 and pretty much broke Especially after paying for travel to the wedding. We couldnt afford a tux. The cool thing was all the groomsmen and the groom were from different branches Army Navy Air Force and Marines all active duty so we all had different uniforms but still looked good. Come to think of it, that was Dress Greens not Blues The second was again to a wedding that I was a guest only but it was about a month after returning home from Iraq. It was a family member getting married and they had planned the ceremony around when I was getting home, they requested I wear it. Next time I went to a party that was black tie and I didnt want to fork out the money for a rental monkey suit, I wore my Blues and had I not been married and with my wife at the party, boy the chicks were getting panty puddin. And Im talking middle aged well kept high class bitches too. Anyway I went home with the wife like a good boy, but she had noticed the attention I was getting so much that she was willing to let me get some even though we had already had sex that month the last time was on a cruise ship. It was my first cruise and my wife had me believe that you actually were required to wear formal on the Captians Night dinner, so I said it will have to be my Blues then......every other cruise after that I just wear a button down and nice pants, she tricked me..... She still trys to get me to bring my Blues on cruises but I never do anymore, maybe next time I will? |

I have worn my dress blues only three times that weren't military related. Two were weddings. Being that I was a broke Lance Criminal, as were the other groomsmen, we wore our blues. Being single, in blues at wedding was like Christmas!
The only time currently that my blues will appear in public will be for military funerals. |

I have worn mine to Military funerals too but I was counting them as Military functions so didnt mention it. Now that I am getting closer to retirement, I dont really know if I'll wear them when retired. I have considered the JROTC instructor thing so I guess there is my answer, but outside that, I have never given it much thought. Maybe when I give my daughters hand in marriage in 25 years or so |

Outside of military function. Only if it is requested.

Only when requested once....and I had a backup suit with me just in case I felt like I was drawing attention away from the bride and groom. Still felt kinda awkward wearing it there since most of my extended family had no idea I enlisted.

Wore mine at a high school ex-gf's wedding while on leave, by request. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget.
Other than that, only non-mil function I wore it to was a Veterans Day dinner at the home my grandad was staying at, since he put his old dress uniform back on every year and limped around like a boss. Both of my weddings I wore a tux. I hate the attention it gets, and after five or so years of telling PFC such and such to take his fucking headgear off at his home town mall and get out of uniform if hes not on assignment I like dressing up like real people. |

I don't care for it because EVERYONE comes up to talk to you and its the same shit every time. "Thank you for your service!", "Do you have to go back?", "Z@MG, your 4th time?!?!", "Well, I don't think we should be over there", "How can you stand to be away for so long?". By the end of the night I just want to down a bottle of Captain and possibly bury my ASUs and you cant do that because I find getting obliterated in uniform to be de classe. Of course if you have even a drink or two and remain perfectly clear headed some asshole will come up to you and chide you for drinking in uniform.
Every time I have, gone to a function so dressed its because someone in the family specifically asked for me to do so. |

If I was an E-1 and couldn't afford a suit then hell yes, if I was an NCO and family asked me to then I would also, other wise I dunno if I would.

If you are married or in a committed relationship
Non military wedding: Only if the bride or groom request it Why: Pretentious, IMO If you are single Non military wedding: ALL DAY EVERY DAY but check with the bride first because a uniform attracts lots of attention. Why: Pie. I am not wearing my Dress Blues to my niece's wedding because I don't want to take attention from her or shave my beard. If you do wear your uniform make sure you wear it correctly. Monk |
