THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I am a former Military Police Officer(U.S. Army) and a former Deputy Sheriff/Detective (Orange County Sheriff's Office). Although the base was closed in 1999 because of the chemical contamination, none of us were notified. This was by design. All branches of the military trained at Ft. McClellan, and many were first responders, but the fact is that it was the main base for Military Police training school so if you are a first responder, you or someone you know is effected. There were also chem school, WAC's, and others. Please get the word out. People deserve to know why they, their spouses, and their children are ill. Some of the illnesses are as simple as ADD, and some are as serious as cancer. The majority seem to run in neurological, endocrine, and autoimmune, but depending on when one was exposed and the level of exposure, the list can be quite extensive. I am including a link that has more details as well as links to government studies. Please take a minute to read the story and then pass along to every single person you know. http://lawenforcementtoday.com/2012/07/03/poisoned-patriots-of-ft-mcclellan/ Monsanto paid 700 million dollars in damages to the residents of Anniston for the contamination but veterans were excluded. In fact, they were never even notified. The VA and congress are hedging their bets that none of us will put this together but it is coming out. Every year they can postpone the story is a year of financial savings. There is currently a bill in the House HR2052, that would require the V.A. to tell us all and maintain a registry of all that were exposed, but so far it hasn't gotten out of Committee so they still aren't obligated to tell us. If anyone has any questions or wants more information, you can email me. Again, please read and forward. |

Interesting. I did chemical AIT in 1988 and BNCOC in 1994-ish at McClellan.
Good to know, thanks! |

Probably 99% of long standing military bases offer some sort of toxic exposure to the residents.

I went through Phase I (chemical munitions) of EOD School there in Oct 65. We worked with live agents (mustard and VX nerve agent) in the field.

yea i'm 99.9 percent sure those "cemetaries" located off the hardball, are not all burial spots. |

If you can avoid further contamination or going there, I would. I am told that they are still actively "cleaning" the place so by definition, it cannot be totally "clean" as they are saying. That means that it is up to federal standards now, but obviously still not acceptable.
Pull up the link in the story. It has the locations of every chemical and radiation (the range had ionizing radiation) and even a map with hot spots. Don't rely too heaily on that though because if you keep reading, you see all of the additional places chemicals were found as well as the admission that rainwater basically carried the chemicals throughout the base. Read the part about the fish in the story. Yes, I filled my canteen from that river too but wouldn't do it today on a bet. Please get screened by a good physician and be very aware of any changes in your body. Early detection is they key. Please tell all folks you know that may have gone there too. We need to get the word out. Be safe and be well. |

The news did a story on this. See link above. It focuses on Agent Orange but there were so many more chemicals there as well as radiation. Please help get the word out. |

There are so many different kinds of radiation in addition to the chemcials, its unbelievable. This is an excerpt of my draft to the VA
U.S. Army Environmental Hygiene Agency, Industrial Radiation Consultation No. 27-43-EU66-99....Ft. McClellan, Alabama, 30 March - 2 April, 1993 indicates that Building 3182 is the Military Police Museum, offices, and M.P. classrooms. It is a former radiological facility that was contaminated in the 1970s. “ Regarding the status of surface contamination of outside areas, Cs-137 was spread into concrete expansion joints along the apron behind Building 3182. Cesium-137 and Co-60 contamination was apparently spread over the soil around Building 3192.” C-137 increases a persons risk for cancer and other health issues. The study further indicated that even though clean up efforts had been made, there were ongoing radiation issues which required “decontamination or removal and radioactive waste disposal of radioactive material. The report further recommended that after removal of the radioactive material that the ground should be tested at a depth of 12 feet, and all underground pipes and manways. As of the 1993 Report, Building 3192 was still contaminated and cleanup efforts had been unsuccessful. The building, insulation, air conditioner, roof, soil, vents, and similar were still contaminated as of 1993. The contamination spread to the surrounding areas and soils to include Building 3182. Moreover. Building 3180 showed persistent “low level contamination” from radiation in 1985. The contamination was adjacent to building 3180. Reference 9 indicated that a source well next to Building 3180 had a radioisotope buried in it.” The floor of building 3180 was removed in November of 1989 and monitored for contamination.” The report indicated that the floor had a high reading and the entire building, floor, and outside concrete pad area has been removed and disposed” as radioactive waste or in a landfill. The radioactive source believed to be Sr-90 (Strontium 90 has a half life of about 28 ˝ years) was removed from the well adjoining building 3180 and the well itself was monitored after the source was removed.” Sr-90 is associated with a variety of health conditions to include cancer, anemia, fatigue, decreased resistance to fight disease. There are also unacceptable levels of K40, Co 60, Cs 137, Bi 214, Th 234, Ac 228 |
