With certain mil surplus items being fairly common nowadays, I reckon the police will have to radically evaluate their pistol rounds. More than that I will not say, but I'm sure some will understand. I don't want to give an unnecessary clue to BGs.

Switched from 357 sig to 9mm. Less expensive, more training time. And if you look at tbe fbi test data its as effective as everything else.

I wish we would. But seeing as they just started buying brand new 4th Gen Glock 22s to replace some of the 14-15 year old 3rd Gen Glock 22s I don't see changing to 9MM anytime soon.
Would be a good way to save some money on range ammo since we are a ~1300 sworn dept. But then again our dept does some shit that is just stupid. For example, Glock 22 can hold 15+1 in the chamber. To "save the spring" they teach, and its also the directive to not top off after loading. And our off duty list was just updated for the first time since 1998. |

Our department just switched from the G23 to the G19 at the beginning of this year.
|

Just found out... we are ordering our new 9mm's today. G17's and G34's for everyone. We are going to have a chance at buying our duty pistol, I'd like to keep my G35 depending on what they want for it.

looked at it, studied it, shot them into Ballistic Gelatin through intervening media, looked back over our last 15 years of officer involved shootings and decided to stay with the .45.

Found out I can tag my G35 and buy it back for $352 plus tax/shipping to the department. Huummm.....

Department bought Gen 4 G22's for patrol and issued admin types a Gen 4 G22 and G27 a couple years ago so I don't see us making a change any time soon. Then again we just got approved for external vests which I figured would never happen so what do I know.

View Quote Our Corrections Division guys are still carrying old Road Patrol Gen 2 Glock 22s with A prefixes. They were the guns the Road Patrol went to when we dumped revolvers back in the mid 90s, I believe. I honestly don't see how they couldn't have worked a deal with the Glock rep for some new guys by now, but they haven't. I helped with their fall range and felt sorry for them..... The county seat PD, meanwhile, just traded in their lightly used gen 4s to one of my competitors. Gen FOUR trade in's. Amazing......... |

Rumor has it that we (Baltimore City, MD) will switch back. The night sights on our Glock 22's are just about worn out and most of our pistols have been overhauled at least once, some more than that. I understand that they just want the stocks of .40 caliber ammunition we have to be used up before they buy 9mm ammunition and do the trde on the pistols.
|
|
We are a podge of gen3 and gen4 g22's and g23's. I don't see us ever dumping the .40cal.
|
|
G22 and G23 for us. No reason to switch to 9 unless your gun must last forever and you can't afford .40 ammo. Just because better duty ammo exists in all calibers now doesn't mean everyone wants the lightest recoiling caliber. The .40 is still a great compromise in all areas that count. If you have a lot of recoil sensitive shooters then giving them a 9 as a personally owned option is one way to go (what I am pushing for). I have way too much .40 gear to switch just for the hell of it. My 9 glocks see plenty of use though.

Early last year we went from a very open 9/40/45 policy to being issued the VP9.

I fully expect my department to jump on the bandwagon any time now. The administration are huge fans of diving lemming like into any popular new fad.

Began with current Department carrying a Glock 17, then moved to the Glock 22 and 27. I will finish my career carrying a 30S. Patrol carries G21 Ben 4. I don't see them switching back to 9mm. I personally bought Two Gen 4 Glock 19s for retirement carry.

I hope we go from glock fo-tay to 9mm soon.
I don't personally like some things about the glock but it's dead nuts reliable. |

My old agency switched from Gen 3 22's to Gen 4 17's a couple years back. Switched agencies and was issued a Gen 2 22. It's hard to wear out a Glock but mine...

Sigh... spoke with a buddy from the training division the other day and he will be doing a new budget analysis comparing the 9mm vs. 45 switch... I won't be surprised to see us going back to 9mm after city council sees the results, they have been steady cutting our ammo budget for a bit now
|
|
We went from Glock 20, 10mm, to Glock 21sf, 45, about six years ago.
|
|
We are still carrying a 3rd gen Smith 4566 TSW... There's far too much firearms derp in my agency to switch off .45 for a looong time.
The people who make the decisions switched us from .357 revolvers to 3rd gen 4006, then to the 4566 because of some magical lack of terminal performance in the .40S&W... There's no way without a significant shift in theory on firearms we will shift anytime soon... |
|
Yes. It's coming. We just bought all new P320s in 9mm to replace our .40 M&P.
Great thing about being an instructor is that most everyone is so excited about the switch that they forgot about the 17K .40 rounds we already have. So it is going to be a free for all for the guys that are willing to keep training with the M&P after the switch. I'm sure the scores will improve at first, but all of our problems are lack of shooter practice at home. If you don't dry fire and practice your draw I can't help you beat the clock on qual day. |
|
We've had 40's for 20 years. Just traded our Sig 229r in 40 for a newer Sig 229r in 40 (bought the old one and the S&W 4043 before that also). Don't want to transition away anyway. I really like 40 and I really like this Sig, so I am happy happy.

Still using G22s. Some of the older ones (mine included) have next to nothing left of their night sights.

Back in 2013 we switched to the Glock 17 (and a couple Glock 19s). We used to be a "supply your own duty gun" department, but the requirement was that the duty weapon was Glock 22 .40.
