...I signed up for the Lieutenant assessment.

Wish me luck or question my sanity.  One of the two.

You're crazy, good luck.

Has your lobotomy been scheduled yet, or is that after you're selected?

The problem with this it that we're probably going to lose a pretty good (and very valuable) working cop and gain another half-assed (and worthless) politician.

PERSONALLY I have refused promotions in my line of work to keep doing something I'm good at and stay happy. YMMV.

Lieutenant is the best rank where I worked.

I had two careers. I retired as a Major from the FD in one city and as a Lieutenant at the PD in another city. For me, once I got that brass on my collar, the jobs got easier.

Lieutenant assessment?  Sounds like a medical screening?  What happens is you have it?  Is it contagious or terminal?  Is there a treatment or therapy if you have it?

I wished I had stopped at Sergeant.  Higher you go, the more headaches you inherit.  And, in my case, the mayor likes to come visit more and the regional press have my cell phone number.

Not saying don't do it, but are you on good enough terms with any of the current/sitting or recently retired LT's to ask them what they liked/hated about the job?

My guys put in for promotions because to them, it is the next logical progression in their career.  Once they get it, it's never what they thought it would be.

If its what you want, good luck.  When I made it to the double bar crowd my former FTO said you know you have to have two operations now right?  One to remove your brain, the other to remove your balls.

If you make it, use the position well.

OK, it's all over but the waiting.  The list comes out next week.

LT, is only a partial lobotomy, the chief ranks are full lobotomy. Either PD of FD.
