Lunches and fun times in their days off during PTO.  They don't know what gear they need yet.

(He would wear this behind his mags as a last ditch back up knife)

(Better then fumbling with a small key in the dark especially with a subject hooked up)

(These are very nice, and will help you keep your baton IN HAND as well as grabbing and deploying the ASP [This is of course if he carries an ASP])

A pocket/key-ring sized CPR shield... Because if you're pushing and blowing things generally come up and you DON'T want that in your mouth.

Those are just a few items that aren't going to break the bank but will be well received.

Hand sanitizer in a convenient container, because the general public is nasty.

Go to NA Rescue site and buy an IPOK med kit.  Add a SOFT-W tq and maybe some cellox gauze or similar.

Seriously...med kit.  Dark Angel is also good...but not as compact as the IPOK.  Way too many guys on patrol without a simple med kit that would save their lives.

A bottle of KY. That way he's prepared to get it up the ass by the administration, who will hang him out to dry for doing what he's been trained to do

He is going to be issued pretty decent equipment that will cover most bases. If you want to get him something he will actually use, look into patrol bags. Do a search for them on Galls or any other police supply sources and go from there. He will be loading and unloading his gear every shift. Everyone has a bag, and it is one piece of gear he won't be issued. Everyone buys their own. A decent folding knife is also something that he will actually use. Nothing too expensive knife wise though, as he will lose them. It happens.

What's your budget? I'd buy him a tourniquet + holster for it that goes on the duty rig.

I have the 1110gear Tourniquet + Quick clot in the soft pouch. Was $100.00. Well worth it if I'm ever shot and get an arterial bleed.

If you can't go that expensive a TK Is a good bit cheaper. Get him one and let him either pocket it or get his own holster later.

Get him a pair or two of smith and wesson cuffs (I prefer the black ones but thats just personal preference) and have his last name and agency engraved on them... because police like to aquire handcuffs ink pens and cuff keys lol

Me either, but being both in the FD and the PD, I always carried St. Michael AND St. Florian on my key ring.

I'd send his instructors a Christmas card and write in there how he was talking over the holidays about how their style of PT isn't shit.
