Responding mutual aid to a house trailer fire. They made entry and apparently the fire had spread underneath the flooring. His foot went through the floor and burning embers went down into his boot.
He put the fire hose in his boot and soaked it. Has 2nd degree burns, some swelling and infection. He is home on doctors orders. Has a referral to UAB for wound care specialist. |

Wow, glad he's okay. Tell him there are easier ways to talk to hot nurses though.
|
|
Hope he is ok. Let us know if he could use anything.
Had a similar thing happen (did not go through the floor but it got real soft real quick.) I ALWAYS check the floor now. Always |
|
No good deed goes unpunished... hope he gets well soon...

Tell him to get well soon.
Reminder to always sound the floor guys. Don't let baby Bama's injury be in vain. Let's learn or be reminded by this. |

Thanks guys. I told both of them when they started this FF stuff that it is a dangerous job and you can get killed doing it.
Hopefully they both learned a lesson about this. |
|
We pull skirting on trailers as a standard. It's likely the fire was underneath before it got into the main living area.
Burns suck. Here is to a speedy recovery. |
|
It's really unfortunate that heroes are more likely to get hurt!
I'm praying he makes a full and complete recovery. |
|
Incidents like these make me glad we don't have rolling tinderboxes in our district.
Please pass along get well wishes from a Yankee brother. |

Beats hot roofing tar down the back of your bunker coat!!!! Besides Chicks dig scars!!

View Quote firefighting is hard on the body, it is not an if you will get hurt, but when and how bad. luckily it does not sound too bad, keep going to wound Dr. and watch for infections. From an old broken fire guy, who has had five work related surgeries, a couple of broken bones, some fairly minor burns, and numerous sprains and strains, over the past 27 years 25 years career and 2 Vol. Love the job but damn glad when I can retire. |
|
He is gonna have to prop that foot up and rest in the recliner at the firehouse, watching the game.
Oh wait... |
|
|
Fire below, fire above and hostile fire events are the ones that get ya. Glad he's ok, tell him get well from a fellow nozzle Head!

Went to the wound care doc on Thursday, changed the dressing and some different meds.
|
|
Why were they going inside the trailer? Was there someone trapped in it? Hope he heals well.

Screw that....a trailer burning that long is not worth any risk to personal. |

Pretty standard treatment. The ointment takes some time to work and burns can take a while to heal completely. When I burnt my shin, it was mostly 2nd, but had some a quarter or sized area of 3rd degree. I opted for a skin graft as it got me back to work 3 weeks instead of 2-3 months. http://i348.photobucket.com/albums/q346/brandonreedy/IMG_20120502_211442_zpsb8515e33.jpg http://i348.photobucket.com/albums/q346/brandonreedy/IMG_20120513_142745_zps99733e36.jpg http://i348.photobucket.com/albums/q346/brandonreedy/IMG_20120521_101247_zpsa4fe2bc8.jpg View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I went by one the other day, probably from the early 70's. The roof must have leaked because the owner built a pole barn style roof over it...no sides just a roof to keep the rain out. |

We will risk our lives a lot to save savable lives.
We will risk our lives a little to save savable property. We will not risk our lives at all to save that which is already lost. |

That sucks. I got burnt bout 3 months ago 2nd to both ears and the side of the neck. The probe steamed us in the attic. Yall stay low stay safe

Locally, our FD will not enter a trailer fire other than to save a life. They will attempt to save property from the exterior through doors/windows/newly created holes.... trailers go up FAST. Smolder to fully engulfed seems like it takes seconds. |

Bama how's your son doing? I tore my left bicep off my forearm last week of January ( fell through a hole in the floor at a vacant housefire), surgery to re-attach, 5 months of Physical Therapy, a month of iron pumping and I'm good as new. As a 55 y.o. firefighter, I'm proud of my progress. I'm sure your son will do fine.

He has to go back once a week for a check up till it heals up. Thanks for asking and glad you are back to work. Us old guys don't bounce back as quick and easy as the young ones. |

Bouncing back is what makes the young old. Go ahead and joke Dan, some day you will be there. We got a cop (his dad was a FF) takes great photos of fire scenes. It was my first work tour back after being injured. We were F.A.S.T. team( RIT) at a vacant, and I checked the pics a few days after the fire. I saw a guy with a gray mustache, and I'm like who is that guy? I zoomed in and it was me! |
