Mine has been sitting in a box for the past 9 years and I think I'm finally ready to part with it. I was initially going to cut it up and make baby blankets out of it, but since kids are not on the horizon I'd like to do something with it. What did you do with yours - sell it, keep it, store it forever? If you sold it, where did you find the most luck? Thanks, girls!

If you would like, you could make a memory bear with it. They make a bear out of the material for you. I did this when my mom passed away, with some material of her's (she could sew). I am going to make a few more out of her favorite ball gown, one for myself and one for my daughter.

Now, if you want to do something fun and creative with your dress, you can always do a trash the dress photo shoot. It's fun and cute. I was going to do this, however my dress was ruined when the grandmother-in-law decided to wash it for me after the wedding.

Let us know what you decide in the end.

I've been trying to figure out what to do with mine also. After 5 years I hate to think its just stuck in a closet.

I had thought about a shadow box using the top and part of the dress.

Thought about trash the dress. But I don't know if I could do that to it. I would wear it everyday if I could. I loved my dress!!!

I like PB's idea of getting a bear made out of it.

Mine is actually still hanging in my closet in a bag. I really need to get one of those boxes for it. I don't think I can part with mine.

I have heard of people making pillows or handkerchiefs out of them. There are a couple of different organizations you can donate it to.

My sister in law sold hers on eBay pretty quickly.

I still have Linda's wedding dress, and I'm saving it so that I can give it to my grand daughter when the time comes. She's 16, so I'm hoping to have it here for quite a while.

I love mine too but I'm in a get-rid-of-stuff mood and the dress keeps popping up on the list. I like the idea of the bear, I'd never heard of that! I've also heard of some girls making pillows out of the bodice, which is a neat idea too. Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll try to sell it first and go from there. I'll keep you posted!

I still have mine packed away somewhere. I don't think I could do anything that would destroy it, though, because my mom made it for me, and she passed away six years ago. I love the thought of one of my girls wearing it someday (though at nearly 2 and nearly 11, I'll be holding it for a long time).

A handmade gown is so special! I'm sure one of your girls will be honored to wear it someday. That is certainly worth keeping.

Memory bears can also just be memory pillows, that is what I am doing with a shirt of my grandfather's.

Trash the dress is fun, creative, and it isn't about "destroying" the dress, it is just about taking beautiful photos in it that you might not have if you were not able to part with the dress. Could you imagine a satin white dress in a creek? It would be ruined, but it does make for some stunning photos! So, it is an option.

If you're just looking to be rid of the dress, then there are many organizations you could donate the dress to. I would recommend either one for prom dresses or Extravagownza (which gives away dresses to be worn at the Marine Corps ball). If you want more information on Extravagownza and how to donate to them, PM me and I will get you in touch with the program director, I used to do volunteer work for Extravagownz.

If you're just looking for money, then eBay, Craigslist or a consignment shop (I would prefer a consignment shop myself) should move the dress quickly. Good luck finding the right option for you!

My wife had hers cleaned and packaged in some kind of smallish preservation box by a dry-cleaning place. Apparently it's common and costs a little over $100.

I never considered a consignment place. That is an excellent idea!

My girlfriend had her dress preserved and though it looked amazing, it is still a dress in a box, which is what I have now. The trash the dress idea is actually sort of growing on me. It looks kind of fun and I'd get to wear the dress one last time!

I always used to think a good trash the dress secession would be playing in a mud pit. Get your husband a cheap tux and have a mud fight. Drive a 4-wheeler, just get dirty. The photographer I used to work for did one where the girl painted a black backdrop with bright pink paint. If your artsy that could be fun.

There is also an organization that makes burial gowns for still born babies with dresses. I can't remember the name.

Come to think of it, I may not be able to fit back into mine.

I was itty bitty back then

That is a wonderful thing to do with wedding dresses that are sitting in closets. I have a friend who may know the name of the organization, I will ask her later and report back if she is aware of it.

I used mine to make a christening outfit for both kids and saved the veil for the girl since she would never be able to wear the dress. I bought it secondhand and had to add material to the hem so it would be long enough, and her Dad is six inches taller than me. She's probably going to top out over 6 feet, lol. But the dress fit her fine when she was a baby. Her brother got a little white satin tux for his christening. I had both outfits heirloomed, and when and if they decide to have kids they are welcome to have the use of them depending on who needs what.

My wife did the same thing. It's been 15 years and I think the last time she pulled it out it was yellowing a bit.

I need to figure out what to do with mine, especially now that we're divorced.

Haha.....i'm with you on that Brandi!! I had mine heirloomed - but that was from my first marriage which was 12 years and abusive so when my stepdaughter needed some lace for hers last year I promptly took it out and began cutting. I think I shocked her....but I said, "Now why would I wanna keep this around when you could use part of it?". I guess I equally shocked the officers where I work when along with some other things I was selling at one point , I mentioned I would trade my engagement ring from that first marriage for a gun of equal value!

Well, after much debate I'd decided to put the dress on E-bay. So I pull the big 'ol box down from the closet, open it up and ........ get all nostalgic.

Back in the closet it goes where it will probably remain forever. I guess good memories are something that are good to have around.

I almost did! If I had more time that morning, I probably would have. It's soooooo pretty! I'm pretty sure it would still fit too, might even be a little looser then 9 years ago.
