During WW II the RN dispatched the HMS Victorious to assist the USN in the Pacific War.  She took on the call sign, Robin, and was soon dubbed USS Robin.  http://www.armouredcarriers.com/uss-robin-hms-victorious/. There's an interesting paint scheme which was largely Measure 21 on the vertical surfaces and Measure 32 (like) on her horizontal surfaces.

USN really gave her fleet carriers a workout in 1942, glad the limeys were able to help us backstop for a while.
