I'd be a bit wary of anything written by SLA Marshall. His research methods were completely bogus, even his former research assistant has stated such. Much of the conclusions of his books are based on his own previously held opinions.

That said, I recommend Max Hastings' The Korean War.

I have read the same information.  He stepped on a lot of toes in the Military.   He did conclude that infantry engagements occured between 15 and 150 yards showing that soldiers didn't need a 30-06 capable of long range fire but an intermediate round with rapid fire would be better. Hint hint (M16 firing 5.56)

Read the report yourself

I thought this one was good, it does mention that he worked with SLA for a little bit and also claims he made stuff up.  The entire book is not about Korea though, more or less his career.

But his section on Korea is very intriguing. Haven't read it in over 20 years but I distinctly remember the section about his Ranger days.

I remember reading a fairly short, but good book by Robert Leckie (writer of A Helmet for My Pillow, and was portrayed in The Pacific) written not long after the ceasefire was declared. I believe it was just called "The War in Korea".
