A couple of days ago I started editing some of my late fathers 16mm silent films and uploading to YouTube. Not everything has been converted to video yet, but I decided to start sooner than later. He was an engineer for Morrison Knudsen and spent most of the 1950's working in Afghanistan on dams, canals, roads, and other projects.

Not much has changed.

A lot of your father's work is still visible/functional (I'm assuming Kandahar/Helmand/Kajaki areas).

The amusement park and "American Village" in Lashkar Gah is still "there"...don't know how functional any of it is.

That country has surely been dealt a bad hand by history.

SECDEF Leon E. Panetta said Wednesday [02 FEB 12] that American forces would step back from a combat role there [Afghanistan] as early as mid-2013.

"Some day this war's gonna end..."
