No [b]FEDERAL[b] law against putting a forward pistol grip on your rifle (pre or post ban).
States like CA, NY, NJ, or MA might have such a law (but I'm not aware of any). You could not put such a grip on an AR-Pistol, but on a rifle its fine. |

You can even have forward grips on long guns in the PRK. As Forest says, a forward grip on a pistol is not legal, being considered an "Any Other Weapon" (AOW) and subject to the NFA.

AFAIK there is no law in NYS that prohibits a forward grip on a rifle.
