Is it possible to no longer have custody of a minor? Me and my wife took in my kid sister a few years back she is now 16. She drinks, does drugs, and runs away from home. Doesn't listen. We've tried everything. She wants to get emancipated but no judge would let her if she even tried. Anything we can do? We don't want to be responsible for her. So do we just need to suck it up for the next year and a half or what?

Go to the Arizona DPS online and read. There may be reasons you can relinquish custody to them.

A doctor or psychologist has determined that a child's caregiver is unable or unwilling to provide minimally adequate care.

The above is one sentence from the following guideline.

Arizona Department of Child Safety: Policy and Procedure Manual

I don't know about Arizona but there should be some way to relinquish care of said child without exposing yourself to criminal charges.

Is there a court order in place?

Have her parents's rights been terminated?

Court order giving myself and my wife custody of her.
Her father is in and out of jail.
Her mother is wanted.

Tough spot. You may be stuck. Call the police every time she sneaks out, she is a runaway. Call the police every time she does anything. Maybe time in jail will help her?

You may be able to kick her out at 17. Look into that also.

The government and taxpayers are SO looking forward to footing the bill.
