Police are civilians. Don't propagate the false dichotomy. They are trying to ban possession for anyone except government employees.

what a load of shit. I just scanned it really quick, but I don't even see an exception for high risk pvt jobs like armored car courier. wth?!

Safe to say that if this passes the house there is gonna be a run on AR500 plate like we've never seen before...

Anyway, I just got done writing my congress woman. Generally, she's pretty good...so if this turd ever gets to the floor, hopefully there will be some resistance against it...

Be careful interpreting the NIJ Standards, they do not follow a numeric progression.

As I read the proposed law, it would restrict ownership of Level III (3) armor, which is specifically .308 resistant. Level IIIa (3a) is only 9mm/.44 Mag resistant.

Very little personal body armor, or armor worn by LEO's, is Level III. http://www.safeguardarmor.com/articles/body-armor-levels/

IIRC the current GI vest is Level II and requires the hard plates to achieve III on the impact zone.

So, why bother legislating against the armor? Most surplus and LEO armor isn't .308 resistant - and that goes to why ban M855? Soft lead nose rifle ammo will penetrate a handgun vest.

Sponsor is (D-CA) so it will likely never get past the committee hopper.
