Up until about a month ago, I worked for a small retail business.

Prior to my leaving, they had bounced some paychecks.  So when pay day came and went without so much as a mention of a paycheck, I stopped going in.  At that point, they owed me for a full month of employment.

Since then, I have collected half of what was owed to me.  But that was about a month ago.

I had worked for them for about 2.5 years at the time I left.

Today, I went in to try to collect the balance, but they wouldn't pay.

One guy got pretty fired up and said I was trespassing, so I left.

Granted, its not a whole lot of money, but I did rightfully earn it and I'm kinda pissed about the whole situation.

Do I have any way to collect what they owe me?

A little background...

Small, family owned gun store.

LLC

Leased, not owned property.

Likely that there are no assets.

Primarily consignment, from what I saw today.

Under $500,000 worth of business each year.

So I doubt that any type of lien wouldn't accomplish anything.

Also, one of the owners is bi-polar, and on meds.  He pulled a gun on me twice in the time that I was there.  Didn't actually point it at me, just drew it.  CCW holder.  It has been several months since the last incident.

Wage disputes are best handled by the state dept of labor.  Go file a claim.

And usually will get you paid. they threaten them with business licensing and other things

I never thought that I was in any kind of danger.  Guy has CP and 50% use of one arm.  One could slap the pistol from his hand if he were to point.

Mostly I just felt sorry for him.

In retrospect, yeah.  I should have done a lot of things differently.

Thanks guys.  I contacted the Dept. of Labor.

They forwarded me to Dept. of Commerce, where I talked to a guy that sent an email with info that should get the ball rolling.

Now for the $1100 worth of MY GUNS that I let them sell, which hasn't been paid back.  But I'm pretty sure that's a civil matter.

You should be able to pursue both matters simultaneously in small claims.
