Can I drive it to his state (visit) and find a FFL in his state and do the transfer?

ETA: Thanks. That is what I thought. Will do on the prior arrangements.

As long as the firearm is legal in his state you are good to go.
I highly recommend finding and making arrangements with the FFL before you make the trip.
