???
Its be en a few months since I've been to walmart to buy ammo. Can anyone else confirm? |
|
Went to Walmart 2 days ago. No ammo fee. Must be local or maybe the OP misread the receipt?
|
|
Bought a box of .223 federal value pack yesterday. No such bill on my receipt.
|
|
It's a TN thing. Same thing happened to me when I ventured up north to score some .22 bulk packs. There should be a paper stamp of some sort on the box specifying the tax (kinda like what is on cig packs).
|
|
yup- TN state tax. goes to the twra- see that little green 10 cent sticker on all the boxes?
|
|
Quoted: You did say 10 cents right? What's the problem? Let me know what the problem is when it's $5.00, ok? Hey, it's just ten cents... they'll NEVER increase it! |

Is their phone # on the receipt? Call sporting goods with a WTF? and let us know.

Nothing new here.
How can I purchase ammo tax stamps?
State law requires that all persons, firms, and corporations engaged in the business of buying, selling, distributing, storing, receiving, having in possession or using shotgun shells or metallic cartridges, shall pay a special privilege tax in addition to all other taxes in an amount or equal to 10 cents per individual container on all center-fire ammunition, all shotgun shells, and rim-fire ammunition. For more information about Ammunition Tax Stamps and how to obtain them, please contact the TWRA Revenue Office at 1-800-648-8798. |

Quoted: You did say 10 cents right? What's the problem? If I were to add up all of the "It's just a __ tax, what's the issue?" taxes I pay, I would have a SHIT LOAD more disposable income. That's the problem. |

|
As others have pointed out, it's a state fee that goes to TWRA.
Do I like it? On principle, no, but it does go to an entity I wholeheartedly support, and TN doesn't have a state income tax, so...... |
|
USUALLY when you buy an item, the taxes (other than state and local taxes) are included in the sale price of the item. Think booze, cigs and ammo, at least previously. To the "Nothing new here" poster, why doesn't the receipt from Bass Pro show an ammo fee?
Geez, 10 cents isn't a big deal, but I have never noticed it before. I was just wondering if Wally decided to tack on a little extra profit and if it was happening elsewhere. The state of Tennessee has charged a 10 cent ammo tax for years- I've just never seen it added to the receipt seperately- It's always been included in the price. |
|
I just bought some ammo at Wal0mart today...looking at my receipt..nothing that says "ammo fee".

|
OK I get it. Didn't know Wally added it to the receipt. As far as I can tell nobody else adds it seperately it's calculated into the cost of the item.
It's just a dime......but I'm being nickeled, dimed and dollared to death. |

I can't rememebr ever getting a reciept for ammo from a TN walmart that didn't itemize the tax, at least not in the last few years. |

Is it just a matter of time until TN starts charging a tax on bibles? That wouldn't surprise me. Our State revenue department has some absolute bloodhounds on staff, and if they find a way to charge you tax for ANYTHING, they will do so, and relentlessly. Years ago, I lived in MS, bought a boat in TN (paid no tax, as an out-of-stater), then moved to TN and sold the boat (to someone else in MS) . They later (long after the boat was gone) found out I'd registered the boat in TN when I moved, and, since nobody else had ever gotten a tax off it, they had the perogative to hit me up for sales tax in it. I registered the boat, paid the fees, NEVER used it (that's why I sold it)....and for my trouble to be legal, got hit with a ~$600 tax. Shoulda sold it before I moved. Did I mention that I hate taxes? |

might be a state tax. this does it have alittle green sticker on it? |

I much prefer seeing the tax on the specific item so I know where my money is going, basically you know what you paid for the product and also what you paid in tax.
And since tn has almost no income tax, they do tax some investment income, I will take taxing specific stuff like ammo since I am not taxed on stuff I don't use. As much as I would prefer zero taxes that is not going to happen in this world where people want things provided for them in some instances. |

Y'all other states need a 1/8th cent sales tax to fund your conservation departments (Missouri has a separate political Department of Natural Resources for the anti's, bunny, perch, and tree huggers).
It will pay off quickly in improvements to your state. The structure of our Conservation Commission helps, but the sales tax provides the cash. |

It's a state tax that's been charged for at least 2 years. Not true. Most likely the cashier saw the TWRA tax stamp for $.10 on it & rang it up as a supplemental charge not knowing the RETAIL outlet is responsible for paying this tax. Every other retail outlet/gun show seller simply adds these tax stamps onto the retail price & we never see it listed separate. |

I'm all for a weak Federal government with limited roles. The States on the other hand should have stepped up the plate a long time ago to take over their responsibilities. |

Quoted: You did say 10 cents right? What's the problem? Originally income tax was only 5% and only taxed the super rich... That went just dandy didn't it |

I wasted more than 10 cents of electricity reading all this fuss about ten cents.
Somebody please warn me next time. Thank you. |

The wal-mart in Hermitage charges the ten cent tax. Do you have a legal resource I could use to refute that when they charge the fee ? |

You did say 10 cents right? What's the problem? I recall a penny increase of the tax on tea caused a major shit storm which ended up in the world's most powerfull military gettings it ass handed to itself by a group of farmers. |
