I was walking through the woods this past weekend in Louisiana on my aunt's property, north of New Orleans.
While chasing some quail through the brush to get some pictures, I happened across this old bottle.

I have never seen an asprin bottle made out of glass before, so I took it home.
If anyone knows the age of this I would appreciate it!

It was filled with dirt and moss when I found it.

I took a brush and washed it out. came out pretty clean!

Next to a quarter for size comparison.

Not sure, but I doubt that is more than 50 years old.

What does the rim look like where the cap snaps on? Or screws on?

I'm 53 and remember those as a kid.

ETA: Plastic top snapped on (long before the childproof stuff).

I was born in 1980 and I remember glass Bayer aspirin bottles when I was young. It may not be very old.

There are bottle price guides that might tell you the approximate age. No clue here but based on condition I would say not that old.

I have found the exact same bottle in Destin, FL. old bottle dump. Nothing special about them, but poke around there may be other bottles nearby.

When I was a kid, there was a HUGE dump of old glass bottles. 1000's of antique milk bottles, soda bottles, etc. The old medicine bottles had corks in them. Many were "melting" over each other from old age. Very cool stuff, as I remember it.

Anyway, most of the pile fell victim to my 10/22 for many, many years.

However, the ones with clear printing, or product still in them were saved for my Mom, who still has most of them in her collection.

It's definitely a snap on cap, no threads. probably had a plastic cap I asume.

That's awesome. Breaking glass is my favorite sound, after gunfire and explosions.

I remember them from the 60's and 70's and they had screw on metal caps. Seems like I remember that cap as being white with black letters.

I think those with the pink cap were children's aspirin.....it's been a long ass time though.

I looked at your first picture initially and the first thing that I thought was that it looked like a Bayer aspirin bottle.

They weren't screw off caps in the late 60s, early 70s if I remember correctly, they were metal push on/push off caps that had a little thumb tab on the side and they were black and white.
This was before child safety caps.
You can figure that bottle is around 40 years old at least.

Once years ago when I was a kid my family went on vacation to Banff, Canada.

Somewhere near there (don't remember where exactly) we visited the site of a former, 19th century hotel that had burned down about 100 years ago.

We found all kinds of old glass bottles from the late 1800s there.

I found a glass Pepsi bottle while landscaping in the yard this past summer. Filled with dirt but intact. It had broken glass all around it.

When I lived in Jax, I found a few. My boss found a whole pile when they were excavating for a co-located sat. dish on the TV station property. Didn't know it until then, that when Jax. burned in the great fire, they pushed & hauled all the debris to the marshland around the St. Johns and used it for fill. Pretty much anywhere along the water, if you dug or used a metal detector, you could find all kinds of artifacts. I found a good bit of silver coinage and bottles in my Jax. TH'ing days.

Is there a symbol on it? like on the bottom of the bottle it might say OI. You can tell what glass company made it that way.

Worked in a pharmacy as a teen and grabbed a bunch of cardboard pill boxes which were used before they went to plastic. They were throwing them out along with glass saline drip bottles. I also have some of the first digital watches they were throwing out. I'll have to find them.

My parents proudly display all the old bottles I collected when I was young.

I found one just like your Bayer bottle...

My Mom painted the raised words white to make it look more authentic, I can't confirm if that is correct though.

I'd keep yours as is though, more collectible that way.
