DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE. - - - - - - - - - - 1______ In the movie a Ranger LT. has a epileptic seizure, this was not in the book, did this really happen or was it made up?Most people know before they are in their 20's if the are epileptic,if so he would of got a fraudulant med. discharge and dishonorable discharge for lying on his DODMERB physical, right? 2______ MSGT.Eversman(Harrnet)was a asmatic in the movie he used his inhaler at least twice. Was Eversman astmatic in real life.I know on the MEPS physical they want to know if you have asthma or a history of it,and was told by a recruiter that it was a disqualification. Most people know if they have asthma and you can't hide it for long(I know of a ROTC cadet who lasted a few months before he broke down on PT and was given a frad. med. discharge)so how did Sgt Eve- rsman get in the army and rangers with asthma and have a inhaler?

1) You are assuming it was properly diagnosed, it may not have been. 2) It could have been late onset 3) It could have been a siezure brough on by TV or other conditions, I don't know. 4) I used to work in a VA Hospital, we had more than a few people there that were recieving benefits based on conditions that they most probably lied about to get into the military, sleepwalking, mental problems etc. Most had discharges indicating they failed to complete basic training - ie general discharge. There were also a few that were discharged with med conditions that they may not have know about when they joined, doubtful but possible, that because they were DIAGNOSED while in the military they recieved benefits........ie hemophilia, migraines.

1) It is a disqualifier. Other meds may be given by inhaler, he might have had an upper respitory infection etc....... yeah I know........

Another question: When the Delta Force guy took out four skinny's on a truck mounted grenade launcher (Night scene), he also said something in Somali just before he killed them....did he do it with a knife? That was fast if it was?

The recoilless rifle truck?? I think it was 3 "skinnies" and 4 Delta guys. The one D-boy talking was a distraction...... the other 3 got behind them and it looked like they used a garrot (sp) to stop breathing, break necks.......

OLY, Granted they did'nt know. HOWEVER if they did and it became a issue(the military would'nt know if it did'nt since they don't look into a persons past med.records with reason)how would the military know if the lied about it or not?Do they look into your history to see if you were ever diagnosed?

I think it would be difficult to not be aware of things like sleepwalkng, hemophillia, or mental illness, and there are questions about such during the enlistment process and medical exams at a MEPS station prior to being sworrn in. Other things like migraines, might be more difficult because many people are not subject to them until their early 20's, smae with many forms of mental illness. When I worked at the VA, I would get the opportunity to see the VA recored regarding some patients, pre-enlistment history, enlistment, training, tours of duty, awards, and post enlistment employement. Many of the people that, I had contact with, and were thought to have fraudulenltly enlisted, were in and out so quick that there 1st hair cut hadn't grown out. And the VA's official stance seemed to be indifference, cheaper to provide benefits than to review the fraudulent enlistment. FYI those with the most suspicious enlistments were often the biggest whiners, and DEMANDERS of service from the VA. They also told radically different stories about their military service than the records told. In conducting themselves in that manner, they took services from the VA that rightfully belonged to veterans that served honorably, and that irritates me.

OLY, So the military does it's own medical search on the person?I thought they trusted you to tell the truth and assumed a lie would arise on its own. So if a person lies and completes training with out a hitch the military already knows he has asthma? How can those people get benefits if they got a dishonorable discharge?

Thanx for reading half my post, the people I saw in the VA got General Discharges, or some type of Discharge other than DISHORABLE........AND MOST WERE NOT ABLE TO COMPLETE TRAINING. When you enlist they ask you all types of medical questions.......flat feet, asthma, bed wetter, sleep walker(very important to the USN), skin problems, etc. etc. Then they medically screen you, blood tests, vision, hearing etc. If you pass all that then you can be sworn in. Of course some people lie, but most lie are discovered in training. Many are discharged as a training failure, not medical-path of least resistance.
