REV.'S SUIT JESSE AND HIS MOB MENACED ME By TERRY SCHERMERHORN January 17, 2002 -- LOS ANGELES - A conservative civil-rights activist filed suit yesterday, claiming the Rev. Jesse Jackson and others threatened him when he tried to get a share of minority-oriented contracts Jackson was eyeing. The Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson claims "a menacing mob" of Jackson's supporters surrounded him and shouted "stupid" and "nigger" at him. "Peterson feared for his life," said the suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The incident allegedly occurred Dec. 10 at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, when Toyota representatives announced they would award $700 million in contracts in 2002 to minority-owned businesses. Peterson, a critic of Jackson, said he spoke up at a question-and-answer portion because he feared his group, The Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, would be excluded from the contracts - and Jackson would benefit - because Peterson's group is made up of conservative Republicans. The suit alleges Jackson and his Rainbow/Push Coalition "appear to be positioned as the de facto gatekeepers of Toyota contracts" because they have a "key man" in a Toyota management position. During the meeting, "Jackson and PUSH denigrated Peterson and his supporters as ‘some parasites who want to pick up apples from trees they didn't shake,' " the suit says. That was followed by "loud, angry and unruly outbursts by Jackson, PUSH and their agents," the suit contends. Later, when Peterson went for coffee, the suit says, Jackson's son Jonathan "approached and willfully, intentionally and maliciously shoved" him. Gregory Mathis, host of TV's "Judge Mathis," also was named in the suit as one of the men who allegedly harassed Peterson. The suit seeks unspecified damages and an injunction to prevent further attacks by Jackson and his supporters. Efforts to contact Jackson and PUSH last night were unsuccessful.

Apparently, one need not only be black, but be the "right kind" of black, to come under Jesse's good graces. On the other hand, what the heck is a "The Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny." Sounds like a cult. [:D]

Sounds less like a cult, and more like a cult from an HP Lovecraft story. "The day after this happened, three PUSH members were attacked and eaten by Hounds of Tindalos..."
